maybe some one should email akai and ask them whats going on.

if im not mistaken, someone emaild them about the bug in the trim menu with mono samples, and within a week after reading that post there was an upgrade with that fix in it.

someone try e-mails akai with their concern.

mine doesn't get hot...gets warm, and that's it...it stays on for long periods of time too. i have a bunch of other stuff that gets a lot hotter (esp. analog stuff: moog source, for example, is waay hotter).

i wonder if it's a random problem...noone else has posted anything about their mpc NOT getting hot...??

mine gets HOT man, real hot

My MPC also does not get hot. I use it in bed on top of insulating sheets all the time and it only gets warm. For the people whose MPCs get hot - where is the hottest area on the MPC?

On mine, the hottest part is where the beats come out.

well that's strange, as it seems that not everyone is experiencing the problem. from what little i know, it sounds like it might be a power-supply thing... i wonder if those mpcs that are heating up have similiar serial #s ?...maybe akai switched/substituted parts at some point in their production.

so HAS anyone contacted them about this yet ? i don't have the probem but i'm curious...

Ok, so it would make sense that the higher the serial number, the newer the machine, the more stable and bug free, right? (I'm talking harware here too, like this heat thing. Not OS stability).

So would it be possible to figure out where Akai are at as far as numbering MPC1000s? Because for someone like me, who's thinking of purchasing one, it would be great to be able to know by looking at the serial number how new or old a machine is. If its like a first-run batch, I would possibly hold off for one from a more recent batch.

ok: my mpc's serial # is 9032500569...

...and it doesn't get hot.

mine is #0104201879

and it gets hot, only 2 months old or so.

does that mean mine is from a newer batch than sans soleil?

mine gets hot on the side panels and screen and it's surroundings.

yea this same stuff happens to me every once in a while. i will have it on for a while and then while its is playing it will skip or the melody i have will get messed up.

...i can't really make sense of these serial numbers...they don't seem to be sequential...

they wouldn't havea sequence, maybe a make number in sequence, but not serial, otherwise you could just report a stolen MPC by a serial that you guesed, like, 0000012345. you know what im saying? serials are just random numbers for security reasons.
