so i'm trying to record a bass line from a moog little phatty onto one of the eight HD tracks.

i get only silence, even though i can watch the meter bar move during recording, and can hear it, but when i play it back, or go to track view there is nothing.

i 'am' using a distortion effect from the input 'send' which makes the signal much louder and can be the problem, ...but because they name it "SEND" doesn't that mean that even if i record from the left analogue input channel it should still work?

here's another thing, ...lets say when you set up your song, ...you decide to use the multiband mastering compressor, ....lets say you use this to make sure all the frequencies are not kicking each other in the a$$ too much,... ....but then you go to HD record, ......and you try to record in the analogue inputs, ....it will not record the mastering effect?

all of this really sucks a$$. seriously.

Are you remembering to set the 'Source' correctly, also did you 'ARM' the tracks before recording and is the 'Record In' selector switch on the back of your 5K (Mic/Line) set correctly?

i set the source to "analogue"

...i armed the correct track, ..."left arm" where the visual meter displays the only active incoming audio from my monophonic moog little phatty.

on the back of the MPC 5000 i flipped the switch from 'mic' to 'line' since it is a line source, using a monster audio cable.

on the top of the mpc i flipped the input select switch from "phono" to "mic"

am i missing anything else? ....it still doesn't work.

Only other things are:

Make sure you're arming the correct channel if you're using a single mono input.
Make sure input thru is 'Off' and you should only hear the source playing if you've armed the track.

After you press stop to end the recording; ensure that you position your now:time (top left) to the correct place where the recording took place i.e. 001.01.00, obviously if you started the recording when the time was at 010:01:00 then you would need to move to that point to see the recorded waveform in HDVIEW tab.

Sorry Bro, can't think of anything else to do, I just recorded a mono input HD Track on my 5K to prove it and it worked first time.

yeah, ...i went back and tried to record a 'test' on my microphone, ...and it definitely worked.

....so its appearantly just the moog, which everyone knows is not digital in any way, ....so i think the problem lies somewhere in the audio comming in, and how it mingles with the sent effects and the mastering eq/compression effects.

that is the only thing i can imagine.

thanks for the help though, ...who really knows what ghosts lurk in between such great technologies?

No problem - try removing the effects and see if if works then - perhaps it's something incorrectly set there?

If your taking a mono line-out from your moog into the record-in on the 5K there shouldn't be any issues with your input signal. So, yeah perhaps do a basic test recording the moog first without trying to configure effects/mastering.

Hope you figure it out bro.
