Mic and Speakers

Im in the market for a mic and speakers just wondering if anyone can throw some names at me to get me in the right direction Good Quality for Good price..thanks for any help.

Check out audio technica 3035 for the mic.....Its a good condenser mic. As far as speakers I have m-audio studiophile, but check around there's a lot of great speakers and mic's to choose from.....!

my rich fried threw me a decent mic but it says it required phantom power....this means that i cant just cop an adaper for the xlr cable and plug it into my mixer or the mpc stereo in right?

just wanted to know if it was worth the painful trip to pick up an adapter

You need a preamp that will supply +48V phantom power. A good preamp really makes a difference to the sound too, esp. a tube preamp. (Presonus do a few nice ones, some also have good A/D for digital input (like the MPC1000 has).
But maybe your mixer has phantom power already? A lot of them do. That might get you going without more expense.

I've got a Rode NT1-A with a presonus blue tube and for monitors a set of KRK Rokit 8's...all of which sound dope, although I'm looking to upgrade to an FMR VNP or a Joe Meek preamp

1st: What are you using the MIC for? grabbing samples? Singing? Drums? Almost every MIC was made for a certain scenario. Then, once you decide you're singing (for example), you need to know if it's just male baritone rap, or a chick singing opera. The MICs required would be very different, and give your sound a completely different feel.

2nd: Speakers are very dependant on your room. You can't get a set of $1000 monitors and through them in your bedroom that has a skim coat of plaster...waste of money, cause all the detail is going to be lost! You'd be better off getting a good pair of headphones (AKG are always good) in that situation. 1 thing people forget with speakers is what your audience will be listening on: If they've got $50 bookshelve speakers, and you do your mix on a good pair, nobody will ever hear what you heard, because their cheap speakers won't reproduce sound the way you mixed it.

Are AKG a good source of headphones for a good mixdown?.......

the mic is going to be used for rap from a male gender in a studio apt,i guess the speakers do not have to be huge but just of good quality.
