Its not all that bad. Whoever told you that is one of those cats who hooks up the wires, hits play and expects everything to work. It takes a few minutes to set up. Nothing major tho.

it was a vid on youtube...dude was doing a sudio setup vid an was answering a qustion on how he does midi with PT.He said its a pain so he does audio seqing.

In my experience of having used Cubase, Logic, Reason and Pro Tools for midi sequencing I'd have to say this...
You can perform all of the usual midi recording and editing tasks using Pro Tools as you would expect from a DAW. However, the midi editing and manipulation functions are not as numerous or in-depth as most other leading DAW's.
For me the most frustration thing was that the midi aspect of Pro Tools is not exactly INTUITIVE. Meaning, coming from the DAW's I've used before it is not easy to work out basic operations without some reading up of the manual/ pdf. It just isn't very user-friendly or graphically appealing in any way, shape or form. It is just functional and somewhat tedious to work with.
Simple things like setting a record/ playback loop, selecting and moving notes and regions really became cumbersome and the rounded notes on the piano roll didnt really work for me. I just wasted too much time trying to figure out the 'unique aspects' of Pro Tools midi sequencer when I didnt really want to adjust my mindset to it quirkiness.
Therefore I agree with many who accept the Pro Tools LE is some way behind Cubase and Logic when it comes to midi sequencing duties. Digidesign could easily do something to make this aspect of the program much better.
I did actually like the audio side of the Pro Tools LE, which is a shame. Sold the Digi 002 and continued using Logic Studio 8 and Reason 4.

Most people on youtube have no understanding of MIDI even though it is basic. Just 'cause he sucks at MIDI doesn't mean you should too.

Besides, I dont use Pro Tools LE any longer, so cant really offer a comment on that one.

If you plan to try out Pro Tools software, don't spend too much money first time out.
Try an Mbox. Dont worry too much abouts the ins and outs, just get the software running and see if it suits you.

And that might be part of your issue right there. I'm not a PT expert, don't even use it. But with the Digi 001, aren't you limited to older, not entirely supported versions of PT? For example, you couldn't upgrade to the new version 8 if you wanted to, correct? Things like this are where old hardware becomes a problem...
