digital slave??

ok, forgive me if this has been covered before...
i've just recently started using the spdif in/outs on my 1000 to go straight into my audio interface (an m-audio firewire 410).
at the moment, i can only get the mpc to provide the sync source (i have to set my audio interface to 'external sync'). this works ok, but is pretty annoying as every time i switch off the mpc i lose all sound on my computer and have to go back into the options on my audio interface and set the sync source back to 'internal'.
so can the mpc be the slave in this setup? i can't find a menu on the mpc with any spdif options...
oh, i have jjos 1 + 2xl installed.

I have that same interface (which I dislike for being so finicky). From what I remember, the 410 always wants to be the master (or is it slave?) when using spdif.

I used to record out of a triton at 48hz through the optical spdif into the 410. The recordings were phenominal, but the thing crashing my ish and going out of sync wasn't worth it most of the time. But then again, in my (limited) experience using coaxial spdif connection things have been much more stable. Anyone else find this to be true, btw?

you can set the 410 to be either master or slave. in the setup screen there's an option for 'internal' or 'external' sync.
i was just wondering about the mpc. i'd like to have the 410 set as master and the mpc set as slave, but i can't find an option in the mpc to set it as a slave.
if i set the 410 to be master, the signal from the mpc just goes dead...

i've found the digital input to be really stable since i started using proper coax leads. at first i just tried a normal rca cable; it worked, but kept cutting out all the time. never used the optical though...

Okay, it's all starting to come back to me now.

First of all, the MPC1K doesn't have any settings options for the spdif output. I'm pretty sure it will always want to be the master, and I think this was the case with my triton also. That's what I really should have written-- The 410 always had to sync to external.

Where the problems arose was if I changed audio applications, or turned off the triton... these types of things would cause horrible sounds, and losing sync. Computer restarts were frequently needed. Now that I think about it, I think my experiences with the FW410 are partly to blame for my aversion to using computers for music!

yup. thought the mpc might not have the option of changing it's spdif settings.
can't say i've had too many problems with the 410. it's been pretty stable for me under mac os. the only annoying thing is when i've got the mpc hooked up digitally, then switch it off.
