Attack portion not played when importing samples from PC

When I import a sample by USB from PC to MPC1000 and play the sample, about 36 samples at the beginning does not get played. This is clearly audible as the sound aren't as sharp as it should be.

I tested this with a 808 bass drum, which has a very sharp attack.

I could not see anybody mention this on the forum.

you mean the first 36 samples?

i get a lot of samples that wont play,,so i just use acoustica mp3 audio mixer to work on my samples,,it lets me mess with the audio plus i can chop them and sh1t right there,,with zoom it makes it very easy to get the points exact..it was like a 20 dollar program..
plus if they dont sound how i want them to on my xl then i just use the program to do some more adjustments..

if these samples are free,,they might have been designed for a certain machine,meaning that some might play,some might not,some might skip,some might constintly repeat,some might even crash ur os,,,,so be carefull with the samples u use...i have 2 tt's so most of my samples come directly from them,that way i control what enters the mp....good luck man!!

I sampled my own 808 with wavelab on my PC. I then imported the sample via USB to the MPC. The sample on the mpc then does not sound like on the PC. The very first part of the attack does not get played on the MPC.

To see how much was missing I then sampled the 808 directly on the mpc, and altered the sample start so I can hear a distinct attack. I then imported this sample to the PC, opened it up in wavelab and could the remove 36 samples at the beginning of the sound and get the same attack sound as on the mpc.

I can also see on the mpc display that the sound is silent in the first 36 samples, but if I alter the sample start the attack portion gets lost and the sound becomes muddly.

Explanation: The term sample refers both the whole "sound" and is also a time constant with 1 sample = 1/44100 s.

I know that when I went from Akai to JJ a few years ago I had problems with my programs cause JJ had disabled a tiny attack setting that was globally enabled in the Akai OS.
Although I've spent a lot of time trimming my samples cleanly some of them was suddenly clicking in the start due to start points in the middle of a waveform. This was because the tiny fade the global attack setting introduced was gone.
If you chop outside the box, then import it is most likely that a portion of the samples attack is lost if Akai still keep that shit in their code. Try go JJ and see if the problem remain, or chop in the box.

Installed jjos 3.08. The problem is still there.

For comparison I sampled the mpc playing the 808 bd with both akai os and jjos in wavelab on my PC. The waveforms are identical. The waveform fades in in about the first 35 samples, compared to the initial sample which has an almost immediate attack transient.

Problem solved!

Downloaded JJOS1 4.99 and it works as it should. Attack transients are heard.
