if the mpc is slaved to midiclock, does it affect the mpc's internal timing in anyway? the reason i ask is cause some drum machines change their feel when synced to midi, im looking to get a mpc1k and hope this wont be an issue..anyone? thanks

Your Mileage May Vary...

On the one hand, you would need the external clock to be really stable. It may have more resolution (ppqn) than the MPC clock, but it might not have a stable rate - it all depends.
On the other hand, part of the "feel" of the MPC etc. can be laid down to the low sample trigger time, note timings, swing, and so on, and using an external clock won't change those.

I would just say: be prepared to try both options, and go with what feels best. The MPC works just fine as the master, controlling two MIDI buses, and I would not want a PC as a master sequencer on stage...

I'm starting to think that a stable midi sync is a myth. Although I haven't tried that many. setups, I always find that (of course) the master unit is always as stable as it ever is, and the slave is lagging or jittering or something. Has anyone had any luck with, say, slaving an Electribe's sequencer to a MPC? I'm curious, because it seems like that would be a fun combo, but not if the timing sux.

slaved both an su700and a qy70 to the mpc (and vice-versa)...iz tight.

Nice. I'm glad it works well...I think my USB midi interface(motu fastlane) may be my problem... the timecode it sends out seems a little wonky... oh well, maybe its time to buy more things?

Try putting your MOTU in stand-alone mode. Most PC-attached routers will route MIDI through the PC when they are attached, but then use their own routing table internally when not connect to the PC. That would add a bit of lag to your MIDI (depending on your software & PC)...

Yeah, i can see how that would help, but all my sync experiments have involved tracks of computer sequences being synced to or syncing my Boss dr770 drum machine. Which hasn't ever worked that tightly at all. Which is why I'd like to only use the computer to mix down. But it just seems so fun to have several seqs all working at the same time, so i keep trying...

Also, i'm another one of those people who actually don't have a MPC yet...just reading up and pondering setups right now.

it depends on your computer and interface, and your midi set upo in amm machines.
