E-Mu MO'Phatt - Is it worth it? [Please help]

I know what you mean. The Xpand synth that comes with Pro Tools is like this, except the sounds aren't cheesy. But most of the sounds are the same with different effects or sounds paired or tripled up to make a new sound.

Yeah,....looks like they took it down already. My bad.

i own this unit. along with quite a few others. and its very useable. like i said if all your doing is flipping through the presets then the same could be said about any unit then. even my k2000r. and thats a phenominal unit.

On a serious note most of the sounds ARE cheesy.

Tweak all you want. I know I have. There is also a lot more you can do in the menus and sub menus not just the knobs on front which more or less adjust pitch and filter setting. Doesn't take away the fact you are just tweaking cheese.

The MO'Phatt is definitely dope. But if your just buying it for the "that" bass sound, I wouldn't do it. That sound is mad easy to re-create with sampling and filtering. Honestly I've literally made that bass sound without even trying...

I clicked on the YouTube link to listen to the example the original poster gave of the type of bass sound he was looking for. And I was trying to tell him that although the Mo'Phatt is a great synth, I don't think it's worth buying if he just wants a Pete Rock-ish/DJ Premier-ish Bass sounds. Like I said, I've achieved that Bass sound countless times with little to no effort. Funk/Soul Bass sample + Filter = What-cha-want!

Right, so I've hopped onto my E-mu PK6 synth which has the 'Pure Phatt' expansion added to its standard Proteus 2000 soundset.

I've had a quick browse through the (preset) bass sounds for something similar to the one on that Pete Rock track which was posted. I found a few which only needed minor tweaks to the filter cutoff to sound pretty close to what I heard. Obviously these patches could be layered with a sub bass/ sine wave for maximum effect.

Soulfuzz Bank 1 Patch 070
Persistent Bank 1 Patch 075
Theory Bass Bank 1 Patch 077

In all I counted 59 preset bass patches (prefix:bas) in banks 1-3, bank 0 is used for saving your edited patches. But you can find some low end in many non-bass instruments.

I'm really suprised how many people like this thing. I had a Planet Phatt which was worth the $50 i bought it for, and the $100 a sold it for

It had some usable stuff, again, worth the $50, especially because all i had was an mpc. It was a band aid though. Tweek all you want, fine, i couldn't imagine it being useful. I'm not into synthesis though, i dabble when bored but i need good presets. I often only use bass only outside of my samples, this machine was good for that, not much more.
