Well since the Mpc5000 shares the same beat clock as the 3000 (but with more TC options)
They both feel great.

I would say just go to your local Guitar center and play with the mpc5000 there.

Hmmn isn`t the 5k clock (960 ppq) too with the extra TC options of course?

Then you need to learn how to use the correct settings for the 4k.
I went from using my 3k to using my 2500 to using my 4k and I had no troulble getting the same results on the 4k that those boxes give.

I've always owned a 2000xl which I love and it has served me well.
But the feel of 5000 is incredible.
Things that would have taken much repetition on 2000xl are direct and easy on the 5000.
It so good that its taking a little while to get use too...

It really does have that old school feel.

Just curious what settings do you use to get the feel you want as I have a 3k and I generally work around with 1/16 triplets shifting tracks 5 to 9 late individually? How about you?

Yoh

I use to work in 16th a lot but I found that I had to keep going back a lot and that I found annoying (2000xl).
I read somewhere that it better to work in 32 and on the whole it is. I switch to 32t when I know I want to do a certain roll or something. Sometimes providing you have some grounding laid down its best to switch the whole quantise thing off lessens the restrictions.

Thats what I do!!!
Find what works for you!!!
Hope this helps

In theory, I will.
Its early days basically all the feel type of stuff I use to do with the 2000xl are bliss with the 5k...

I might add even using Note Repeat button the rolls sound wicked...

Still dazed at the fact that I can work at 64t note too, things like that I use to dream about.

Instant Mantronix

Still stuck at work.....

It seems that working with triplets and 960 ppqs note off is the key to your feel?

Not really, the triplet thing is just common sense application there it is and that's how to best use it.
Up to now I was working in the old ppqs now I got something different and it feels real good.
The machine has got bags of character.

Let me get this right, it is common technique to use triplet, right? And one just has to figure best how to apply it.

Coming from the 2xl which I used and I still have a 3k both at 96ppq the new 960ppq gives something different and it feel good.

Would you say at 960ppqs your feel isn`t restricted as much as 96ppqs?? I mean the more space in the resolution 960>>96 the more natural your feel would be right?

Sounds like a more powerful sequencer and you have gotten better at your timing it seems?

Yeah I guess that be right.

Having both 2kxl and 3k what's your opinon about the difference in feel?
There is a school of thought that swears its all BS but right now even though its a higher resolution 5k is running like 3k on super steroids.

Depends I guess see 96ppq is a restriction especially on the 3k that we all mostly gotten used to I believe especially in hip hop cuz we have heard countless hits made with the 3k and 2k with swing settings. And we all know we can set the swing when quantizing the notes. 960 ppqs is less restrictive giving a piano player or a trained drummer all the feel he wants just by setting the quantize off. And this is without doubling up your tempo like before on the 2xl and 3k.

I tend to think it is the user really the machine plays what you put down not vice versa if it`s wrong or off no resolution can help one concerning drum placement to get a groove going.

We all remember how we sounded first starting off with no previous drum machine experience off beat like a mofo.
