Midi Stup With module

Hi All,

I got tired of performance issues with battery/ CB4, and I now have a MPC>

My setup is as follows:
-PC with a Midi interface (1 MidiIn 1 MidiOut)
-Midi controller Key Board (1 MidiOut)
-Roland Module XV-5050 (1 MidiOut 1 MidiThru 1 MidiIn)
-MPC 500

I suspect someone will say I will need to upgrade to a USB or firewire controller, but I pray someone can tell me how to get to get this to work with the MPC as the master, with the Akai Triggering the sounds in the Module, and the PC to record.

to bad you dont live in seattle... thats one of those trial and error kinda things, you know, where you try everything,. i love this type of challenge.

It's maddening. I tried every possible configuration. But I think i may either need a USB Midi Controller, or a controller with MidiOut and Thru to enable handshaking.

The controller is a Dinosaur (2001-ish), so that may be the problem.

what are you trying to do exactly when you say record on the pc, is that audio or the midi stream?

i would set up like so

Midi controller Key Board midi out -> MPC 500 midi in
MPC 500 midi out -> Roland Module XV-5050 midi in
Roland Module XV-5050 midi thru -> PC midi in

on the mpc set sync to master, receive midi all

that should work, with mpc as the master, youll be able to record what you do on the keyboard into the mpc, and trigger the midi module (be sure to set the track to midi instead of drum, set midi channel etc)

If you want to play samples from the mpc from on keyboard, remeber that if you want to play chromatically you'll need to reassign some of the notes since the drum tracks are set to GM mode as standard. This wont be a problem for midi tracks.

You will also be able to capture the midi stream into the pc like this, but its really not needed unless you plan to sync some software, in that case, set the software to midi slave, and adjust the audio buffer as low as you can possibly go.

You sound on point. I got the basics down as far as midi & PC. Just for info purposes, all i really need the PC for is to record the audio. The MPC will serve as the master.
