As for producing a drum unit/samplebox that would potentially oust or at least challenge the current dominancy of the MPC and MV series already out there, this unit is gonna have to have some serious kick-ass features not found on those already out there to even partly persuade the established units loyal customer bases to even consider anything else !

Then, of course, we got those ol grey-haired, white boy, smelly rockers, LINN, in the background with all their old wisdom being put into what we are all being told will evntually be the must have beatmaker of the next few years - would be nice to actually see an actual unit in the real now at this late .... many are losing faith in this ever becoming a reality ?!!

The rumour mill is also working overtime about Roland's next venture .... but then this is true of Akai as well.
One thing is for sure, Beatkangz are gonna seriosuly be up against some stiff competition for beatmakers dollars, pounds and yen, make no mistake.

In terms of Hip Hop, as this is the obvious vibe that I get from Beatkangz about which market this unit is to be squarely aimed at, I could think of at least four things that the MPC does not utilise that would be nice to see in a professional beat making box ... infact, they're not even on the other much vaunted beat box extrodoniare, the MV series. Still, they wouldn't want to hear froma culturally fair-minded and unbaised soul like me anyhow, so perhaps I'll hold onto those snippets for now.

Hey, Beatkangz, hope that your unit truly is something 'extra' ?

Well, yea, ok...somehow I don't believe that....but do your thing. Hopefully there will be more then a couple prototypes for less than $3k a piece.

DAMN.... I think I am impressed by the videos. I just wish the pitch and mod wheels were on the same side. Pretty cool though. You dudes can't front.

For all of you out there who want to know who is making this for us..... WE ARE MAKING IT 100% indy electronics company. We tried to go with all the majors but they wanted to twist our vision and give us penny's for our ideas so we assembled a bad ass team and formed a serious company so we could do things OUR way. Now that we have actually made the Thang they are all over us but we are going to stay indy........ FOR YOU wether you know it now or not.

We are not marketing but rather just having fun and making beat machines. We dont want to be a stuffy stiff corporation with bland marketing campaigns and boring product names. Our personalities and product names may be wacky but our business is serious and our product will be vicious. Hits WILL be made on it....... Never underestimate the underdog. Russell Simmons couldn't get a Record deal in the beginning and was laughed at by all the majors who called hip hop "just a FAD" and now look.

No one in the MI world has made Hip hop a priority despite it being the number one selling music in the world. It's just an after thought or a "Marketing Ploy". Do you want someone to make a machine for you who has no understanding of the music you make or rather a company of people who make that kind of music and actually come from the culture?

Thats the question you should ask your self...... Do you want old recycled ideas from old grey haired rockers or do you want new radical ideas from a new generation of people like you? Either way we are gonna do our Thang and give back to the culture that made us who we are! We gonna do our THANG!!!!

thats all great and fine. and as far as your machine is concerned i'll wait and see.

but the way you talk about the "culture" and that you are doing this "for us" is seriously bullsh*t.

the way you present yourself and the way you are portraying the culture is really generic and tacky. no different than the "grey haired" people you speak of usually approach hip hop when they scheme to make a dollar.

dont get me wrong the idea for a machine made by actual musicians is great.

but your implementation is horrible to say the least.

machine is starting to stack up serious the mod, and pitch wheels plus the no load times on auditioning samples.

the pads look responsive the colour screen with video tutorials, and sounds good like u can do some superthugh type club tracks on there plus u can sample ur own sounds.

shit could be a winner but wonder what the price is.

im impressed by a lot of the features but it lacks a lot on the basic features. he tried to downplay the fact that it doesnt have a lot of outs because of usb, but people plenty of people still use outs and other machines have both.

and they couldnt allow more than 16 tracks? "oh we didnt put more. you dont need more than 16 tracks because [insert bullsh*t excuse here]"

it seems like a lot of this campaign is about telling us what we dont need. somehow we need a chopped and screwed feature, but not more than 16 tracks or more outs.

and i wanna see somebody actually make a real beat with samples. and how the chopping works on there. i dont care about no drum machine type bs. anybody can make a half decent beat with pre-programmed sounds.

I agree. At the moment every demo from the Beat Thang just sounds like a Modern Beats sample cd run through Fruity Loops. Waaaaay too clean for my tastes.

So hows about it Kangs? We know you're checking this thread, so maybe get something produced for us golden era cats? I'm down with what you're doing, but I want a new and exciting sampler, not just another drum machine.

Here here,
Show us how BackPack the Thang can git!

Quick question: Is there any limit to how long one (1) sample could be? Reason being is it would be nice to use the Thang to trigger whole songs, a.k.a. poor man's Instant Replay.

Well, hold up one second here. These old supposed grey haired guys you are on about( rockers or not ) gave us the likes of the MPCs, Linns and SPs of this world that took hip hop in all directions. I would bet your petty life on the fact that they had no 'racial' or 'cultural' slants to the concept of thier respective units, just little more than having an honourable desire to provide a muscial soul with an intstrument with which they can bring their musical beats into reality - that is colourless and cultureless, mr brotha !! Your view again only disgusts the very word of decency .... and actual truth !

Nuff said ... and I won't be commenting further, barr saying that if you end up with a good product on your hands, are you gonna **** when some backwater redneck band are using your drumbox to underpin their latest redneck grabbing smash hit ? Please, talk sense ... for once in your life ... or, at the very least, open your mind and drop your foolish ignorance !

Oh, moderators I am sincerely sorry for posting in this manner, but this guy has it coming ( if not now, then someone will deal with his nonsense later ).

I'll say a little prayer for this guy - he truly needs some enlightening.

nice one roger!^^ haha.

speaking about chopping, if they integrate the software nicely, drag and drop capabilities would be nice. drag a sample right to the pad, disconect usb, and go!!! that would be nice.

also, when i first saw the thang i was hoping that those 16 track pads would be slice pads, where you could slice/zone your sample into 16 parts and preview each slice by hitting the corresponding track pad, no having to switch zones with the jog wheel! then just hit the pad you want to edit and adjust the slice............ OR be used xox sequencing style!!!
