i dont think multiple out are manditory cos you can export each tracks wav via usb and process on computer there were some nice built in sounds i was impressed i think once you start adding ur own samples shit will be dope.

16 tracks is enuff for most beats

I wanna laugh along about the ppqn but even the PC in 1997 had 384ppqn with cubase - tho am sure they weren't the famous rock solid different to all the rest MPC ppqn's...

Just seems like more and more of the features useful to a wider range of musicians on MPCs are being stripped out bit by bit and taking steps backwards instead of forwards - getting to the point where you might as well not call it a midi or music production centre and call it where it's heading, a limited niche beat tool...

"low" ppqn lets the machine add it's own little "feel" to the sequence, especially if you don't quantize.

a "high" ppqn would be like recording directly to audio, except you can edit each single note after recording. but the editing depends on the samplers capabilities, too.

agree? disagree?

For me low, ppqn gets in the way of recording stuff with *my* feel...
I hate playing something only to find out the machine can't record it as played

Sometimes the 'legendary' Akai feel just isn't what's wanted...

A higher resolution would be closer to analogue (or at least tech available in 1997) and for sure, anything else would depend on the machines capabilities... like being able to lower the ppqn resolution right back down to 96ppqn, or 8, if you wanted...

Anyways, it's just one of those corners that IMO shouldn't be cut when you're competing with laptops etc these days... and also the kinda thing that makes me wonder what else in the machine has been cut back as far as poss

So yeah, I still love the MPC as a concept but in the face of the newer tech it's looking really, really dated and the truly hideous beat thang is implementing more things that Akai/Numark should've been doing a long time ago...

I'm alittle bit more sold on this after the video. So many small things that seem like they could be easily integrated in existing products that have the hardware on the machine already are overlooked by Akai. I don't have experience with Roland samplers. I still have to sit down infront of one. The pad layout is interesting to me as well, even though the asr x has done it, i have never had interest in that machine because of other reasons.

After watching the vids where it is actually showing it in action, i think that for me, it would be more similar to software than my mpc. Which is good. I am hardware based, or i'm software based, i don't combine the two because there hasn't been something yet that bridges that gap. This might not bridge the gap, but it seems to bring much of the software functionality into the hardware relm. Nobody is doing this. I've talked to a few people about this who were straight hating on this. There are some innovations here that i'm happy to see. Some are obvious and nobody has picked up on in the industry, others are truely unique.

That said...Please don't say you have no marketing. What you put out under your company's name publicly is, well, marketing. You talk about grey haired dudes as being sort of "distant" from what people here are doing and can't understand what someone like me is all about. But, you are putting yourself out in much of the same way to a lot of people here. Plus, i like the machines from grey haired rockers and your machine won't likely replace them, it could have a seat next to them. Akai didn't create a culture for the mpc, users did. Get off the culture bullshit.

The you are with us or against us mentality isn't helping me. I'm very on the fence. That pushes me away, i don't need this machine, i don't know if i want it. But you put out videos saying "you are wrong" to potential customers.

Anyway, best of luck. I hope to get behind one of these some day and see if it lives up to hype you put out.

Mos Def a Killer in the portable beat machine market though, I was gonna get a SP-404 over the MPC 500, but now I think I'll wait and cop a Beat Thang instead of the 404.

>>>Phew, I was starting to think that it was just me that was seeing the wrong in the way this interesting beat concept was being marketed ! Glad someone else sees it in this way.

The first vid mentions alot of cool features though the "Beat Thang" he was holding was a plastic hollow demo. Sh1t wasnt even real.

If this thing does become real then it will be a dope "Groove box/ drum machine".
I cant really see this thing being a sampler cuz they have not mentioned sh1t about its sampling time/ chopping features.

im hearinf peeps say its gonna be between 500 and 1000 quid i hope not they should be able to offer this for about 350.

thats would cut into the mpc1k market as well as the sp range as well as well as mopping up the xr-20 and streetbox crowd.
