Roland VS 1680

I've searched and couldn't come up with a definitive thread regarding my questions about the 1680. I hope I'm not reiterating info that has already been stated

I'm planing on copping a used one cause I'm tired of this PC sh*t for real. I am fed up with it. These are my concerns:

1. The sound Quality- is it comparable to good software programs like Sonar or any others in that category?

2. Can you see the actual wave form when you're editing?

3. As far as burning to CD, are you able to upload and burn more than one project on a CD or is it one project per CD?

I'm copping it on the recommendation of Evil-D and Kanye. Not a "personal" recommendation but what I heard they used

This piece of equipment is a good investment.......You can do an whole album with this thing...........I can't tell you about acually seeing the wave but for the most part the sound quality is excellent....If you saw kanye with it that should tell you something there.......

The Roland 1680 was my first recorder. Although I've moved on to computer based recording I still miss it at times...I could work that thing with my eyes wide shut.....

1.Sound quality is very good....if you can mix at all. It's 24bit machine but the AD-DA converters are not true 24 bit. My engineersaid that the naked ear couldn't tell the diff. between 20 bit and 24 bit...If I remember right the AD is 24 bit but the DA is 20 bit on the 1680....I later sold my 1680 to get the 1880....for the better convertors and cd mastering functions....

2. You can see the waves - one wave at a time..not sure if you can see them while editing.....never really needed to use it

3. You can burn as many projects as the cd can hold with the 1680....When you burn songs and your finished you must finalize your cd before you can play it in a cd player...

TO be honest with you...I'd get the 1880 if I could...They're both pretty cheap now.....the only little problem I had with the 1680 was that before you burn a song to cd the 1680 must first convert the files and then burn...the process isn't that long but it takes just about the same amount of time to convert as it does to burn files.....my only complaint....The 1880 goes striaght to burning...NO converting....it isn't really a big dealthough....just thought I'd mention it.......

i have the vs890. i love it. The studio i rap at sometimes has the 1680 and that thing is a beast! sounds great man!

TWO thumbs up, good purchase. I have a Roland recorder and people swear I have been to a Mastering studio. The manuals are a little F'D up, but meet others with the machine or check out forums and you will be fine. Start with the Quick Starts, those are the only instructions not in Hebrew.

Go to graigslist.com or even ebay... You can find one for under $500. We'll worth the pennies.

You gotta know that they remastered and tweaked it to the max with all the expensive ish in the studios though eh?
