Myspace will not get you signed...WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS....

Yup. Myspace is a tool, i don't get why people can't get that. You will get what you put in to it. If you have dope beats but nobody will ever find you, it won't help. If you have wack beats and you hit up everyone, it won't help you. If you are only using myspace to get signed or even have the expectation that it will do something greater than yourself, you have an expectation that most likely will not be fulfilled. Don't get down on a website because it hasn't made you famous.

I think what you said is a perfect example of why you should be on myspace. For myself, it has been nothing but good.

Yea I've sold a couple of beats through myspace and even talked to some artists (like Count Bass D and Pumpkinhead) so there's not much bad to say about it...just that everyones always looking for free beats

Here is few things you all need to know about music biz.First of all 90% of producers on internet they copy Dr.Dre,RZA,Dj PREMIER,KW and list goes on and on.ALL you see now days is DRe beat here k.West beat there,for example they resampling sht thats old as ****.The thing is your not gonna blow if you bringing this sht to the table they already have that they want something new,said that every label wants to make money and they can not do it by droping same ol same ol.You wonna to this for living be unique try that for change and you will see results.But you can't except something if you just sitting on your ass you need to get up meet artists get up on beat contests,promote your sht in person not behind a pc.I am not smartest dude on here i just know few things and am still learning thou but rest of it it's just common sense.

myspace is good for networking etc. especially if you live in a remote country like new zealand. however i far prefer to communicate and make contacts on forums such as this one. i tend to use myspace only as a place to upload my songs

it depends on what you mean by successful.

i realized a long time ago i gotta do this shit for me. To make me happy, not to be famous, make it big, or whatever. That shit aint garunteed even if you are the best. plus that aint all its cracked up to be either.......yeah, a paycheck would be nice. but i want to make something im proud of.

right now all I care about is getting my name out in my city so i can work with more dudes, all i strive for is respect as a good producer and props.......beyond that, ill worry about that once i get there.

I know people who did this and make $20,000 a piece a month touring the world. You can get signed off of Myspace. My homies have a gold record in Japan, and Billboard singles. And it did come from hardcore promotion on myspace. Motown signed them, and then bumped them to Universal.

Just because YOU can't get signed on myspace does not mean its not possible.

I got signed to my label on Myspace too.
Myspace is one of the #1 promotion tools out there and promotion is more important in the music industry then music... Sorry its the truth. Get butt hurt about it, but the longer you are in the industry the more you need to accept this and learn how to cope with it.

My band also got signed to a prominent hardcore label off of myspace. There are 3 deal right there I can name personally.

my aim is to have fun and keep enjoying what i do regardless of whether anything comes of it, im in it for the escape and the music nothing else.

point is... when you talk to someone whether it is a person you met at a party or a guy who works in a record company..... when you talk about the fact that you make music they always say "do you have a myspace" ...

it is a good tool. 1) 6 tracks you can upload 2) a bio 3) pics and background to add a vibe or add something to your thing.

all for **** free.


use it.. I do, and I have yet to get much from it... however it has been useful in personal situations where people want to hear something and I dont have a disk in my coat pocket.


actually it has gotten me something, last week the owner of a local record company asked me for my myspace while I was in his studio, so I told him it and explain what is involved in making my music and what our niche is....

he is now wants to assemble an album to send off to record labels... and I wasn't even down at his studio/record company for reasons related to my music.

good point sumone made on this topic... "hardcore promotion" that's the key whether it be myspace or whutever... but no myspace alone will most likely not get you signed, at least not without money spent on promo and effort on your own part to spread the word about ya page.

Exactly! The people I know who have succeeded on myspace just used it as a promotion tool. The promotional work is still the SAME. You still have to put in the hours, time, and networking you would normally have too. Its just easier on a broader scale, because you don't have to physically encounter people who normally you would never meet.
