Cassius is a French house music duo consisting of producers Philippe Cerboneschi and Hubert Blanc-Francard, better known as Philippe Zdar and Boom Bass. Zdar and Boom Bass started working together in 1988, producing albums for French hip-hop artist MC Solaar. In 1991 they created their first project, called La Funk Mob, and the following year, they started experimenting with a more electronic sound. Later the would be involved with collaborations with Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah, Pharell, Justin Timberlake and Leroy Burgess. Their success would soon allow them to be found remixing tracks for acts such as Air and Daft Punk.

If you're like me and frequented house and electronica clubs in the late 90's you've probably heard many tracks that were remixed by the Cassius fellas. I first heard the name Cassius when they released the breakout tune "1999" which was featured on the debut album of the same name http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_(Cassius_album). The Donna Summer sampled hook help send "1999" to the top of the US and UK dance charts. They were apart of the first wave of french artists that would soon bring Disco back and ultimately make the elctro sound super-chique. Cassius at their purest form are two hip-hop heads who love their MPCs but continue to suffer from a sever case of saturday night fever every weekend. Both musicians admit in music zine interviews that they are fans of the MPC and have been rocking them before they ever laid tracks for MC Solaar. They report to have used them on their latest release, in studio and heavily on tour.

NICE DEEP SOUND... Kinda West Coast type house vibe OM or Naked Music definitely my type of house.

I'm 99.9% Sure he did but I honestly can't remember for sure, he had a rich friend with all the gear like 909's and so on, check this video out as he talks about the history of that track and the MPC-60

interesting article. on altered states however RT seems to have went for a 909, 626 and cheap keyboard option. i guess its
not what you have, but how you use it

Cassius in da House! Love those guys. 1999 got played over, over and over, over. I remember seeing live pictures of them with a BassStation keyboard. and an S1000.
