Sir,

First I will answer your questions, and then leave you with a little advice.
1. Third party hard drive - Akai doesn't make hard drives, so any hard drive will be third party. Search the forums for specifics.
2. Kit - if you are referring to the HDM-10, then yes it is necessary. Search the forums for specifics.
3. DVD-ROM - I have never seen a third party drive and doubt if any company would bother. I could be wrong. Why don't you try searching the forums?
4. Yes.

Advice:
========
It is wise when first joining an online forum to read any "stickies" or the forum-specific FAQ. These documents will explain the basics of using said forum and will almost always encourage you to exhaust the "search" function before posting questions. Veteran members of the forum have no interest in answering the same question multiple, or even hundreds of times and posts that cover the same ground are sure to be met with derision.
I advise that you read up on "Netiquette" (try searching Wikipedia).

This is the equivalent of asking a well structured specific question.

THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING AND IS CONSIDERED RUDE.

THIS MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A JACK@SS AND IS ONLY USED WHEN SOMETHING IS ON FIRE

We look forward to helping you in the future, but please respect our customs.

Yes, you need the kit, but it should be delivered with the 2500. So no need to buy another one.

There are several threads here about how to make certain non-Akai drives work in the 2500, but I'm too lazy to search for them now. I leave that to the interested reader.
