Thats a Zoom product that can benefit from Zoom's sales channel, marketing efforts, and brand name. I'm guessing some sort of OEM deal. Selling a product is not a cheap undertaking. As for that being Zoom's biggest selling product of all time, I have a hard time buying that. As for selling direct, there's not much profit there. The real profit is in a worldwide sales channel. Not that I know anything about any of this

would love a page of stats and/or manual for this device.

please tell me a little bit about who is developing the os. are you considering making the os open source? you could blaze SERIOUS trails with that.

beatkangs, also remember that resolution can be doubled by doubling the tempo BEFORE recording midi data - ie, the beat is recorded at 190 bpm but in actuality is 95 bpm.

I remember him saying he couldnt give too much info because of comp spies. so I douubt you will be getting any of that until after the launch.

That is how a lot of krunk tracks are made today.

haha excluding jj, the competition moves waaay too slowly to be any threat to the kangs - and jj's got enough ideas/feature requests to have to steal stuff from another developer.

doubletime resolution is the only way to go. the count in is horribly slow otherwise!! double res for life, every beat i make.

Uhm, and they mentioned something about selling direct from the warehouse instead of going through with retailers. I was hoping to demo this unit first, but I'm gonna wait on other peoples reviews before throwing down dough.

Correction, Zoom's best selling rhthym box...

Seems like a good idea til the Chinese plant you are manufacturing at makes Beatthang an 'open item' and sells it at 2xFOB then with os being open they lose all sales

I dont think you guys are using the term "open source" properly... or rather, I dont think you meen open source actually...

first of all, if the OS is open source, nobody can charge for it (or else it is not open source) ... second, with every copy of the OS that is distributed, the source code must be included. Third (the part I think you guys mean) Every copy's licence grants for anyone who obtains it to make modifications and redistrubute the OS but not with the original's name, and they must not charge for it. They also must not not give it the same name if they make a change in the OS and they must give credit to the original author of the software. There can be no proprietary bias at all meaning it can not alter other software or programs... The final and most important rule: all these rules apply to everyone that the software (OS) is distributed to... (there are more then just those rules... but those basically sum it up)

That would be cool and productive... but I doubt they will go that route when they not only had a custom computer architectre built, but then had to have an OS designed for it to actually turn on. OS is not just features and visuals... an OS means operating system, which includes everything that makes the machine even do something when you turn on the machine... try turning on a machine with no OS... nothing happens.

JJ does not require the original OS to make a new OS... he needs to know the schematics of the hardware. I have no clue, but from the way I read people talk of his methods... it sounds to me like he may have gotten a hold of some bit to run the boot sequence and then made his own design entirely... possibly he kept things like memory allocation management or something....

Beat kangs will not make this open source... I hardly think. They may however grant certain people a licence giving them permission to design their own versions of the original software....

Very interesting... I seriously doubt it would kill the MPC tho... def looks like a toy if you sat it in the middle of a pro studio environment... but who knows? The right ingenuity put into this thing it could turn out to be something useful... I'd say right now tho it looks like it's geared toward these kids who just want to make weezy jeezy garbage type beats... the commercial is mad corny & over the top... the lights flashing all over it is basic cosmetics & probably serves no real purpose other than to jack up the price & looks kinda gay anyway... Not tryin to hate but, well, I hate it so far,lol How dare you call that a MPC killa? lol ... not by a long shot

debauch - that's exactly what i mean. create a transparent boot os with a program file specification, seq file specification, etc and post these all open in a developer section of the website and/or forum and let those who are gifted have at it. sweeten the deal by giving the 3rd party developers the option of charging for their work. this alone could create multiple music making systems out of one piece of hardware - different than the hierarchy of 1000/2500 os's in that each are equally viable, just very different.

I will say it looking like a toy means nothing though.... Circuit benders anyone?
People actually take real toys and make them functional instruments....
I don't think the cosmetic is very good, but I think the same thing about my SP404 and I love that thing....
