The Digidrive won't unless it's the old version. They long ago changed the circuitboard and that rendered it useless witht he 2KXL.

If someone tries the psiiic and it works I think that's a winner.

It works. And is hot swap-able, as long as you don't try to open another device without having a cf card in the drive. Using a 1gig Lexar Platinum II card, 80X. No problems.

hows about this?
think this would work?
the thing is it has a usb port, wonder how that could be used (thumbdrives under gb?small partitions on pc)

has a 9-pin connector it says you just put it in the floppy bay and bam!

sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit i think i might just buy one and test it out, but ya'll have the theoretical thing going on, so: anyone think this would work?

I just installed one today - super simple and works perfectly. I don't understand why people are buying anything else (**** like Digidrives) or why SMC is building something identical that costs more. I mean, props for the entrepreneurial spirit but IMHO there's no market...

I HAVE IT ON GOOD AUTHORITY THE ADDONICS DRIVE IS SOON TO BE DISCONTINUED, AND MAY ALREADY BE, AND THAT THOSE UNITS AVAILABLE MAY BE OF THE LAST RUN. ALSO, IT'S NOT TRUE DMA MODE, SO IN SOME MACHINES IT MAY OPERATE QUIRKY. THE ONE I AM MAKING WILL NOT ONLY BE FOR THE 2KXL ALONE, BUT MANY OTHER MACHINES AS WELL. ;)

IF YOU CAN GET THE ADDONICS DRIVE, AND IF IT MOUNTS WITHOUT MODIFICATION, MORE POWER TO YA. ;) DOES IT COME WITH A RIBBON CABLE AND POWER CABLE ADAPTER?

ALSO, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THIS PARTICULAR CARD READER I AM MAKING IS STEP ONE, I HAVE A COMPANY IN CHINA PUTTING TOGETHER A HOT SWAP CIRCUIT BOARD RIGHT NOW, AND ONCE AVAILABLE IT WILL BE CHEAPER THAN ANY OTHER COMPATIBLE ONE ON THE MARKET.

;)

Ok credit where it's due - it doesn't come with ribbon or power cables and it requires modifcation to install. If you've put together a plug and play solution for ~$36 then that's a great deal and props for investing your time and money!

For those of you in a hurry to get one, I will post 4 on Ebay NOW.

Unfortunately I don't have the power adapter cables yet, however I will include a ribbon cable.

The catch with the ribbon cable is that it could be a little longer, and it's folded 90 degrees in the wrong direction, so you'll have to straighten it and fold it as needed.

As soon as the new brackets get in and power cables come in, I will also grab a bunch of ribbon cables, and then I'll post a crapload of them on Ebay.

I didn't want to post ANY until the first 100 were ready the way I wanted, but by popular demand, and terroristic threats...... here it is guys, have at em:

Install the operating system version 1.20

It's simple. Install it.

Download the file from Akai's website, I gave you the link, put it on your Zip or Floppy disc, and open the file from the MPC.

It will install the newest operating system.

Then shut it down and open the MPC and install the card reader.

It's very very simple guys. :)

As far as hot-swappable-bootable-ATAPI......

I don't know what you mean, the question makes no sense to me.

I've explained here a million times what the machine requires, and what the card reader itself has to be and support in order to work.

Yes, mine works. Obviously.... It's been discussed in great detail.

No, it does not hot swap. The MPC has to be off while inserting or removing the card.

This is rarely an issue like it would be with a zip or floppy, cause the storage capacity is so large that you'll rarely or never need to remove it. The only time mine comes out is to back up the card to the computer or to add samples.

Huh....... nobody wants one huh?

Oh well. Alright, I'll continue posting them on Ebay, and testing with other machines.

I think this is enough for this forum here, so if you want one, check ebay

Thanx! :)

Peace out homies

not sure but it's not too expensive to try out..... ???

I'd say, first thing to do would be to open the unit and see if it has a 40 Pin header.

40 Pin IDE/ATAPI headers look just like a standard floppy header, most floppy headers are 34 pin, a 40 pin would be a little wider, they actually call it 40 but most of them have 1 pin removed so it would actually be 39.

If it has a '40' then it's a good chance.

check that first

Hi, I have been working to get a CF reader on my MPC 2000. You can see my thread over here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=108455

I've tried a lot of things and I'm not sure what the problem is. At this point it could be several things, but one possiblity is certainly an incompatibility with the CF->IDE reader I'm using. My thought is that if you could offer this card reader with the extra parts needed to put it into the MPC 2000, you could probably sell a lot of these and really help a lot of people out!

I would be willing to send you my IDE->SCSI converter and internal SCSI to external SCSI adapter if you have a MPC 2000 that you could test this out on. To test it out you don't even need to take apart the MPC, though you do need a way to get power to the adapter and card reader obviously. Anyway, if this is something that interests you, you can contact me at discord32 (at) hotmail (dot) com
