I was just wondering about the what people though. I know I could got to the digi web site for specs but,...... in general

Could I get one of the newest dell computers and run protools 002 rack for tracking a saving. then give the disc to some one at a real studio..

will the newer dell computer coming out now run protools

i think that as long the computer that u using is running good and have no problem like crashing and stuff then protools should work and u need a good soundcard too.thats my 2 cents peace 100's

isn't the 002 rack a soundcard? computer are not what they use to be about 10 years ago. if you get the top of the line dell computer with as much ram as it can hold and a fast harddrive (7200 rpm) for audio you will be set. no questions. you will have to tweak your system for audio (that will take about 1 hour). there are allot of web sites with info on tweaking a window xp system.

suggest that yo udo go to digi and look at required specs for running portools on a PC. they only support certain types of processors/configurations etc. so the only way to know 100% is to check it out.

when you buy the protools digi o2 setup it will inclued everthing u need to hook up to a pc no aditional sound card needed thats one of the reasons of the success of protools

Im have this computer built for me for the low price of 599.00

sounds nice i am a amd man myelf but if i were u i would go with the 2800 if i couldnt get the new 3200 64 bit amd (asus has a good 64bit motherboard for it too) if u can wait till the end of the year it will be cheaper becase a new amd chip will be out thats what im buliding also get a dvdrw burner instead of a cd burner so when u want to burn a protools file of your recordings it will fit on a dvd cuz if its a big file or most average file (depends on what sample rate u record in) it wont fit on a cd thats just my experince

and forget that modem unless its on yure motherboard never get on the internet with yure recording computer a virus will **** yure whole day up i had to learn the hard way even though i was warn

Good looking Ripper.........Its a lil bit to late I already put the order in and I suppose to pick it up tomorrow! The reason for the modem is the place were offering package deals on new built systems,.... Trust me when I tell you that the internet will never see that computer, its soul purpose if for recording only. I'll be surfing the net with my laptop!

only on e hard drive. presently i am running five.
1 system drive partioned, for other stuff like graphics

2 80 gig, in raid 3 config
40 gig partioned to hold image of both partitions on system drive
and one 20 gig for samples.

I have been told that 2 hard drives is recommended.......one for your operating system and the other for recording and what not.........

yea two hard drives are find with the second hard drive u can get a removable hard drive rack off ebay to fit in one of your top drive bay so u can pull it out and change drives when u want i require all artist that i am working wit that are doing albums or big projects to purchase thier own hard drive

Removable hard drive racks are tooooooooooooooo old school.
Get u an 80gb external harddrive with a USB 2.0 / Firewire connection (Firewire connection is definitely better). You can then take it on the go.

or if you have a big hard drive, you can partition the drive so all your
os and programs on partition 1 and have partition exclusively for
audio. I tend not to stock too much stuff on hard drives as I HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED LOOSING EVERYTHING IN MY EARLY DAYS.
that's why I partition and burn to cd as frequently as I can....

I also heard ages ago about someone making a partition that was just under the size of a cd.... and as soon as it was full, he'd have to burn...
