Yes, you need the kit, but it should be delivered with the 2500. So no need to buy another one.

For the drive, search "cd teac help".

They are all CD/DVD combo drives, DVD is ROM only, and CD burning is limited in JJ OS.

iF I WAS YOU I WOULD JUST GO TO AN OLD CPU STORE AND BUY A OLD LAPTOP WITH THE RIGHT HARD DRIVE IN IT AND BUY IT THEY MIGHT EVEN HAVE SOME ALREADY FOR SELL. THERE IS NO OTHER DVD ROM THAT I KNOW ABOUT I WOULD JUST STICK TO WHAT MPC HAS AND IT WORKS WONDERS. CHECK IT OUT
