I didn't expect him to be Dilla, but I was hoping he would have his own style or not piggy back as much on his brother.
THe Yancey Boys album had no production from illa J. Future albums will feature production by him. This album was done to pay homage to his brother. Kinda like them doing an album together if he were still alive. These beats are from the mid 90's (the "Deliscious Vinyl Years") Illa J altered his style a bit to flow with the laid back vibe of the beats and album. I have a mix tape around here somewhere where his flow is real nice and different from the current album. I will see if i can find it.
Yeah I know he didn't produce on this one, but that makes sense. That is what I was wondering, because in interviews he was talking about how his brother taught him to produce too.... so I was waiting to hear his stuff. But his flow is alright, but if did all of that just for his brother I understand that and that is cool. I just can't wait to hear HIM fully.
