Black pads for the 1000

Hi all .....

As explained ashort time ago, I am planning to buy and install a black set of pads from MPCStuff.

Before I both spend the money on these and set about installing them, can someone please tell me if the pads feel any different from the original grey pads that come as standard with the 1000 ?

I do vaguely recall reading somewhere that they are a little softer in feel than the original greys ... or is it purely imagined ? Would really appreciate some posts from those that have installed the black pads ....

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I am doing the changeover purely for asthetic reasons alone ( vain, I know !! ).

they are softer. Also they smell a little funny at first.

you can change the color of your pads for $2. do some research. and the process will soften them at the same time

Lunatic, change the co,lour for $2 ... please do tell and save me a lil time ( this once only ) ?

i have a set of original 1000 pads right now that are darker greyish blue. i also have a set of 2k pads that are super dark blue. black would not be that difficult. look into rc car modding and youll find your answer. i have done mpc pads, xbox controllers. buttons switches. all kinds of stuff

Hey, Lunatic, this don't look right to me, man ... are you aure about this stuff ?

Been checking rit dye out and here's is what it says about us9ing it's product :

' For dark or bright colors, prepare dyebath in a 12-quart stainless steel pot, then heat on stovetop to a temperature just below simmering.
When you begin your project, immerse your garment in the lightest color dyebath for 4 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove when the color is a little darker than desired. Rinse well and repeat with next lightest color. Repeat until you have used all your colors'.

* Now, hold on a moment, but having to emmerse rubber pads in, er, hot water ? Uhmn, doesn't sound like a good idea being that rubber melts and all ??

' Rit dye is a mixture of Acid dye, of the leveling acid type, for dyeing wool and other animal (protein) fibers, as well as nylon, and Direct dye, for dyeing cellulose fibers such as cotton, rayon, linen, etc. It cannot be used to dye polyester or acrylic, and it cannot be used in cold water'.

well you never know...

heres your proof. this is an original set from a 60. these were the darker grey\brown looking ones.

i also have a set from a 2000 and a full set of old style 1000 pads that i did. and here tell me if you have ever seen an orange xbox360 controller. you know they dont make these.

water temp and time is the key factors here. heres a close up with the triggers and bumpers too. this is not paint. it is fully wear resistant because the actual plastic has been dyed.

i used to do this with skateboard wheels, it works, a little experimentation might be needed.
