Final Feature Requests for OS 2 (please read and contribute)

This is where I ultimately think JJ is heading. I think eventually we'll be able to either pick from a list of say 50 options, and design our own working environment. Or, pick from several different operating systems where each one is designed to cover specific working methods. Of course, this all depends on the demand. I really have no idea how many people will be willing to keep paying for JJ to keep improving, even experimenting, with these OS'es. I personally don't mind paying as long as he keeps fixing bugs, responding to requests like he does, and keeps trying to add new features... Hell I'm happy to support JJ. I hope this goes on for years to come.

I purchased XL and that is my limit until he changes the way his O.S licensing works. If for some reason my machines breaks, I would like to be able to install the O.S that I paid for to use on another machine. Just something to think about before we talk about giving up more money.

good point, mbe a machine ID taken from a CF card (say used as a dongle) would work for me, so i could install n run jj os on any mpc - using jjos to load n save as long as its been booted up on power up with that CF/dongle inserted.

cos being a musician that travels, the chances are high that one day u woulod need some replacement, although JJ's been quick to respond to auth requests, its sometimes a bit too late,

mbe if they started to use a web based auth procedure for web purchase then near-instant auth.

or an app on the mac/pc that recognises the auth key and can install/deinstall jjos auth's to any mpc attached - as long as the license is intact.

As his prices rise he needs to at some point tie his O.S license to the user and not the MPC. Or simply stabilize pricing. I hope he does throw OS2 users a bone by adding some of the wanted features at no charge. He needs to understand , His user base has sacrificed compatibility with other MPC users and tend to be a supportive, knowledgeable and experimental. While we love the fact that he fixes his coding errors lets not forget sometimes his O.S revision numbers border on insanity. (maybe it should have a Windows update type component ) So I'm hoping that he decides that this was his labor of love that he happen to a make fair amount of profit from. JJ give the people what they want.

Multi-timbrality -- Will quite possibly never be implemented as jj says at his FAQ, because it would require fundamental changes to the os.

A single function that would split recorded midi notes to tracks based on midi channel -- A simple thing to implement that would not need a lot of effort. Just record something, and then use a function to split the recorded material to tracks with matching midi channels.

This is my single most wanted feature since day one with the mpc. Imagine playing MPC's internal tracks with Logic, or being able to bounce on and off sequences for detailed editing using Logic's editor.

No OS2 XL for me until this is implemented.

i wouldnt even hold my breath over that, it sounds like you need a rack sampler my friend. s3200xl is a good one.
