putting the sample on hold

I have this mixer that has four buttons for 8 seconds of sample on each and it comes with this "hold" button which basically loops sample very easily while I hit the pads on the akai. I followed the manual on setting the loop on the akai 1000 and yet I can't make the pad to loop so that I can hit other pads while it's looping...sort of over dub in a live feel mode. What gives??? The "note on" is set, the "loop on" is set, the start and end point is set and that lock-unlock visual is set too! What else do I have to do to achieve this "hold" feature???

you have to hold the pad down in order for it to loop, Just make the loop by making a sequence with the loop and that will allow you to free up your hands, or hold the loop sample down press f3 or f4( to change the track), Make sure the track that you move to next is a different program, then release the held sample and that will make it loop as well.
