drum compressions?

Do u guys compress your drums inside the mpc or outside then send it 2 the mpc of your choice?

I always compress outside the mpc........I never heard of anyone compressing drums in the mpc, maybe filtering a lil bit but not compressing. Normally people would construct their drums in the mpc and then what ever they track with they do all of the compression and everything in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What are you tracking with?

the 1000 has a compressor in it, so it can be done. THe 4000 probably has one too.

not tracking with nothing right now

just making it all in the mpc then sending it analog into my soundcard to record

would it be better to send each individual track out to the computer in a program like cool edit then mix?

Mos Def.......! Better manage of your tracks, you can munipulate them one by one.......reverb on one, delay on another and so forth. Do you have 8 outs?

Not to flame or anything, but I was just wondering, if you eventually put everything on a computer, why not just create the whole song on a computer? What are the pros of working on an MPC instead? (Really undecided between getting an MPC or just getting software instead)

sound quality as well as capability
plus I plan on buying a tracker and mpc 4000 eventually so I dont even have to bother with the cp

cause dude, you create on the mpc for the feel of it, and the inspiration of it.....Then finish it on the computer(finishing as in mastering it, adding effects the mpc does not have, mixing, etc), ...same thing you would do with a guitar.

I treat my mpc as an instrument. Just like a guitar. Yeah i could just do the same thing on the computer, but there is something about it like there is about playing a guitar. Same reason there are diffearnt guitars, because everybody likes differant looks and feels, and sound to the guitar.

I like the feel and groove of the mpc, and my interaction with its interface: it makes me wanna make a beat...whereas a computer doesnt do the same for the creative process.

I agree in saying you will get much better results by tracking onto your computer. I use the mpc to compose and sync the machine with pro tools
and then just track using solo. Then I can individually compress, add reverb and eq and beef up my mix... It gives you much more control over each sound, 24 bit so no loss in audio quality.

If you try it you can also play around with pro tools great audio editing
facilities, reversing, stuttering and lots of cools tricks you can do to add further interest to your tracks.... plus you can then mix in great
vocals (multiple takes) and use the plug ins to compress etc.

This is all the type of stuff people pay lots of money to do in recording studios.... You can always track at home and mix yourself or track (saving money and studio time) and just go into a pro studio for mixdown.

Mpc is hands on, you just get inspiration from the beast itself, It's hard to explain why so many people are hooked on it. Once you get the 8 outs, it's just a powerhouse, 24 bit sound and a punch that no other equipment can come close to... its all taste and colours though so definately try things out before you buy anything but when I bought my mpc I wondered how
i managed without one for all these years. It's my center peice now for
working, I've stopped sequencing with computers and just use the comuter
to bounce samples in and out of wace editors and into the sampler and
finally just track into the computer....

and it's great for gigging

besides the 8 outs are only good if ur tracking with something right?
cause its no point if i put 8 outs into my mixer then it all goes into one channel into my soundcard
