1. So how do you define success?
2. Do you know how many units sold?
3. How much money Roland made from them?
4. Are their many professional producers that actually use them?
5. Why are its expansion options discontinued?

My latest feature request:
- I really want the next MPC to have a brand new GUI. The current one is pretty much the same as the MPC 3000. When need an LCD which high resolution with the MPCs software capable of taking advantage of this new LCD to show better graphics/video of on screen parameters.

5. Why does AKAI need to resort to selling mpc5000s personally and not entirely through retailers as they do with their other products as does roland currently with the MV8800?


Dont act like MV's didn't succeed, a lot of pros use them... and a lot of people bought them. Roland is a large company, so they might be only satisfied with a lot more money then a smaller company would. They probably have a guy who says.. we only made 50 million profit off such and such series so lets no longer focus on that because we made 300 million profit on that instead.

If the MV8000 didn't do well, why would they do it again and make the 8800?

uhm... i never said it was a success, i said it was and is the only thing people can compare with an MPC when debating if buying one.

by the way, success is a matter of opinion, people set their own goals in which to achieve. You should ask Roland did their meet their goal. Thats why i asked, it depends on what you define as successful. Someone else could say something was a success, but the other person can disagree

The MV8800 is an MV-8000 with a color screen, vga board standards, and a new OS. My best guess is they hoped this would improve sales. As far as a lot of pros using them..I can only think of 1 and his music has gotten worst over the years.

Anyway...I thought this was a feature request thread for actual users of the 5K?

you are the one asking questions about mv sales like it matters. the mv is a great machine... but you brought up the sales bit. I just showed you that the same few questions can be asked about the 5k... because maybe one pro uses the MV (not sure which one you are thinking of anyways) but that is one more then I know of for the 5k.

Not only is this an MPC 5000 feature request thread..it is for users only (per request of the 5K users who started the thread), which I think you are not.

This is like one of my biggest wants right now as a person that samples. I want run an incoming audio signal thru an MPC effect (such as a filter) and sample it while in the Recording Mode. There are work arounds to do the same thing in the current OS but it would be more user friendly if we can do this directly in the Recording Mode.

ok instead, how about like the 4000, a "Utility for updating the MPC4000 operating system via USB"

Even though it is not possible for the 5K... but maybe for a future machine, or if there was only a physical expansion available it would be neat...

I think it would be great to have the ability to connect the mpc to a windows network for example, having a windows explorer (not internet explorer) type of app in the mpc, and it would allow access to files stored in shared folders on networked machines.

For example, on one of my computers I have a 500gig hard drive that is only used for samples and music related files, audio tracks, etc.... and I have it accessable within my network here at home so any machine I gave permission to has access (my laptop, other computer upstairs, and the main production machine down here where the drive is set up) ...

Not only would it be great for moving files back and forth, but who knows... it could do even more.

That or bring back the USB slot for key drives etc...

Also how about a software editing tool for the 5k
