2500 user viewpoints?

Hey. First post so be gentle! I haven't used an MPC for a few years now and I'm about to get a 2500. I've read a load of official stuff on the pro's of a CD-M25 upgrade but just wanted to get some consumer viewpoints. Who better to ask than guys who use them rather than guys who wanna sell me one? Basically will I really need one in the future if I have a computer to hook it up to anyway?

If Your Money Is good, I would suggest buying the 2500LE If you can hunt one down at a guitar center (It comes fully loaded) but i would recommend a dvd drive over the cd drive.

If the PRICE IS RIGHT I will sell you mine.

if you really want to rip some audio off of a cd/dvd, do it on your computer and save the money you'd blow on a drive (or an LE) for wax or some monitors or something else.

I 3rd this, I have the 2500 with the 128mb ram as my only upgrade(hard-drive would be nice but I make due) really whats the point to the CD drive when you can copy from your computer and transfer via USB? Now... if you could burn multiple .mp3 files to a CD from the MP it would be a different story

Not quite sure I understand you, But why would you want to burn .mp3 files.

i think its handy for me because i dont have a tt yet and i use my dvd/cd drive on the 2500le and dont need to hook up to pc all the time, its diff ways to put music in ur mpc thats what it there for use it ...

I got a cheap Teac drive for the 2500 for the sake of it really & I don't ever intend to burn any mpc tunes to CD using it...

It's kinda nice to have another option all in the one box - like if I just wanna sample something quick to see if it works etc without turning a whole other bunch of stuff on or if the mpc ever leaves my house etc but for me the cd drive was the least desirable/necessary of all the upgrades.

i've never seen the purpose of a cd drive on an mpc. odds are it's connected to something that can play cds anyway. as for burning cds, that's another "why?" cds are a dead medium - cds are the floppy disk of the 00s.

on that note, for those of you that don't know, i work for americorps in an elementary school. the other day, i had a kid bring up a math worksheet to me to ask for help. in it they were supposed to estimate how many inches big a certain object is supposed to be.

"what is this thing?" one of them asked. it was a picture of a 3.5 floppy disk. i almost died laughing.

give us 4 years, cd roms will be the same way.

The CD drive is just another option for sampling but its not worth the money I think. They seem to expensive.

The CD drive is in many cases a luxury, that's for sure, but it is a lifesaver if you are on stage and your HD breaks down. Load up a DVD and let the show go on.

..or say that you do a reformatting of your HD. It takes forever to load it all back, so a few CDs or DVDs does the same job in a lot less time.

If you're not near a computer, you can still bash out a CD to play on a stereo or in the car.

Etc... You could do some of these things using a CF card, but for the low price on an unofficial drive, and on the media itself, it is a winner in my opinion.

@ Nym: CDs are still going strong, and in 4 years we might have something new on the horizon, but they will still be cheap and readily available. I thinks. We will see.

I got the 2500le and I thought I'd never use the CD drive, but I have used it quite a few times now to grab sounds. I usually sample records but there's some sounds I want off CDs and it's nice to grab it without using a computer. It's much more direct and faster. I just burned a bunch of Arabic music CDs off my brother and they're full of great sounds that never came out on wax.

i was wondering the same thing, if i found that i could sample from a dvd on the mpc 2500 i would probably buy a cdm25, but i dont do many loop type samples and when i burn 2 cd its a true mix down using many different divices to get a professional sound so the cd burning doesnt interest me much

Na that was a crazy question... I'm pretty sure it can't. A couple posts in here made it kind of sound that way, but I probably misunderstood.
