Why MIDI?

i dont use midi for anything other than syncing tracks into their proper time when im recording into my 16 track. other than that i dont find it necessary for what i do. i have a minimalist approach.

limitations are the amount of things one can do at a time and the useful number of devices in midi chains before the lag hits the performance.

Yeah jo, this is a real nice multi purpose pedal, I'm impressed...good look! It's got a nice hookup matrix and the fact that it itself is a analog instrument w/daw support and some, there's all kinds of possibilities.

Nah but what dude was elaborating on was you could control the LFO via midi clock either by the daw or from the unit itself.

This usually gives the effect the ability to lock with your beat which can bring some creative ideas to surface.

Great read, bookmark-worthy. I was missing the whole second half of the equation from the computer to the MIDI device--that knowledge alone makes the time well spent! But, since I don't have a MIDI synth, just a keyboard for triggering other sounds (the Oxygen , I doubt I'd use MIDI much in the way most people do. I'm currently using a pretty old-school software program as well, so I don't know if editing the MIDI in the box would open up a world of possibilities for me. I think the most intriguing idea, given my current setup, is to use MIDI to trigger effects and automation. In fact I've done this before in Ableton and was pretty disappointed with the digital artifacts every time I tweaked a knob to trigger an effect. Very clunky. Maybe that's something that's been fixed with newer editions of Ableton but I've heard that it hasn't. Also, having 20,000+ sounds at your disposal sounds like a bad idea. I'm much happier sampling my own playing from a real instrument and then tweaking it inside the MPC.

Me 2. I used to hate midi when i didn't fully understand it but i now see the benefits and appreciate it's existence. really

you are using midi. When you record the sounds on your pads in a sequence, thats midi! hence midi sequence!

i got my mp synced to my 8 track, then the mp controls the sp which runs thru the input thru. nice and simple.

If you wanted to, you could hook up the oxygen to the mp via midi, record a drum pattern with the pads, then use the oxygen to play melodies/bass samples in the mp......... pads for riddims, keys for melodies!

cc's are midi control change numbers; these numbers correspond to midi notes(each mp pad has a midi note #), variations in velocity, duration of key/pad presses, parameter values, etc. You assign cc #'s to parameters on the midi keyboard/mpc and you can control those parameters remotely with the other device.....
