MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Ive heard that the 4000 was hated by many people when it first got released. But now after many years, the bugs are gone and people seem to LOVE it..

Don't you think this will happen to the 5000? Like in 3 years, almost everyone loves is and have forgot the problems at release?

Just my thoughts..

Of course it will but it won't take 3 years.
Akai seems to have learned a little from past mistakes, or at least it appears so.
They were quick to address those pre-ship as well as after ship bugs, and the time frame to which they announced v2 was pretty good considering it's about adding features not just a bug fix.
If they stay the course it will get there a lot faster than 3 years.

I dont think so the 4000 is a beast in itself... even the way the 4000 is built is classic... 5000 is hot but its no 4000...

Of course it will.
The only drawback to the 4k was that it was designed, owned and marketed by a failing company.
The developement stalled prematurely.
With the current company being tied to multiple companies they have more resources and have already show they have a somewhat realistic perspective of not letting that happen again.
The 5k is a work in progress no reason they can't take it to a higher level.
It may not be there yet but the potential is there.

Simply not true.
The only issues with the 4k are promised features never delivered and unfulfilled potential.
You must have had a broken 4k or had user error.

There is still a 4k bugtracker that tells me there are some very nasty bugs in the 4k...

I think the 5k beats the 4k with OS2 easily. Just the very much improved user interface does that to me. The main difference that one could turn to the 4k (all to *my* opinion folks) is the 24 bits sampling capacity. I've captured that by buying a second hand Z8 for 400 euro's 8)
OK, AkSys could be a reason too for some, though that application is buggy as hell on my Mac.
But likewise, the 5k has some features the 4k has not. And I think the building quality of the 5k is as good as the 4k.

This is just my opinion...but since Akai dropped support for Aksys years ago, it doesn't seem likely they would do another. But asking can't hurt. But..I think we should do what the MV Forum did. We can all contact Chicken Systems to see if they would be willing to create a software editor like they did for the MV:

What can the the 4000 do that the 5000 can't? I thought the 4000 was a full sampler, while all the other MPC's are simply phrase samplers. I actually don't know what that means as I've only used a phase sampler, but I keep hearing about the Z4/Z8 engine...I'd like to know what the "engine" is capable of doing. So far, my MPC2500 is everything I could ever need, but if I'm missing out on something, enlighten me. I wanna learn! :)
I don't care about sequencer features, I want to know about sampler abilities. I don't care about chopshop..I can edit samples without that, but I'd like to know what the 4000 can do to a sample that the 5000 simply can't do, because I haven't found anything that a simple MPC2000 can't do yet (without some creativity.)
PS. I just drank a Red Stripe, so I'll probably forget that I posted this message tomorrow! HAHAHA!

^^^
If you actually own an MPC 5000 and run across a bug, you can report it in the threads above and also email it to Akai. There are numerous MPC users that use the MPC in numerous ways so everyone will not encounter the same bug or problems. If you keep problems you have to yourself, then they will never get fixed.

Akai is aware of every bug posted in this forum. They have been addressed.
