Insufficient Memory Error w/ 128mb installed??

Yo,

I recently loaded a 62mb sample into my MPC1000 off my flash card. Problem is I am unable to do anything with the sample once it's in due to 'insufficient memory'. I have 128mb of RAM installed and if I go into record mode after I've loaded the sample up, it says I have another 5 minutes of sample time remaining. So I have more than enough memory to work with the sample but it won't let me.

What gives?

here's a stupid question........ you said you have 128mb of ram installed. did you install a 128mb chip or a 256mb chip?

^ good question. wouldnt a 128 only give you 64mb of RAM then? Also is autoload on?

even so i think there is a file size limit isnt there? im going to load a big ass file right now to check.

ok i loaded a 54mb file and it plays fine. so maybe you should check your availible mem before you try to load it.

It has 256mb installed.

Checked the available memory and it has over 10 minutes available.

It's the wierdest thing... Because I've used big ass files before and never had this problem.

For the record... The file itself is a 6-minute mp3 that I converted to wav, saved to the CF card and loaded into the MPC.

I ended up getting this particular file to work by discarding about 60% of the sample. Would still like to know why it's messing up though.

Are you trying to edit the sample in "TRIM" mode, Chopping, extracting and such? In that case it´s probably no actual problem at all. It seems the MPC make one or several copies of the sample in RAM while executing those operations. 62 times 2 equals 124, not much left to work with in RAM after that.

If the sample simply won´t play in TRIM or assigned to a program, then you have some sort of problem that need a more thorough ceheck up.

Ah, that'd be it then. Yeah, I was trying to edit it in trim mode.... So I'm guessing the best way to remedy the situation is to just use a smaller sample in the future?

It's a MPC1000 + 128MB RAM. The thing is... people here talk about 128MB RAM and 256MB RAM, and I don't know if this is the "correct" RAM I should buy for the MPC.

By the looks that's the Akai EXM-128mb RAM. That's the official RAM from Akai, so yes that bundle will give you the full 128mb expansion you're after.

So you know, the 256mb thing-thing only applies if you're buying 3rd party RAM.
