I am a little upset. These companies want us to shell out thousands of dollars for machines they have us beta testing only to drop us like a hot potato. I love the mpc 4000 but I do not feel as though I should have to by a 5000 just because it is the latest and newest product. This is how these companies are getting over like fat rats. I know this is business and capitalism but the music is the one that pays a heavy price; especially if he or she is a basement or hobbyist musician. I feel that akai screws every consumer that loves these products. They update them to get minimal specifications operable. They promote the product like it is Gods gift to music and then leave you high and dry when there are all these problems. I know that techinically the are a new company since merging with numark a couple of years ago but what about us. If I new the ins and outs of Electronic music hardware design and code I would make my own upgrades and updates to the MPC. The thing I like about the 5000 is that you get all the parts and do not have to by essential pieces seperately. Correct me if I am worng. I am just a little pissed.

I know. I was not trippin at first but I just think about how the old loyal customers get thrown to the side like old gym socks with holes in them.

It's up to you if you wanna take the bait. But always keep in mind that Akai went through a corporate change a few years ago. Though Alesis/Numark aquired the ranks of Akai, the original company's heritage didn't get transfered during the buyout.

Around 1996, the 'old' Akai started developing the MPC 2000 and then the 2000XL. The "new' Akai has released the MPC 2500 and 5000. Both of these units are far superior to the latest machines under the 'old' Akai. So which Akai are you talking about? The one that released the MPC 60/3000 for $3000-$4000..which is probably more like $4000-$5000 today? Catz are crying about a $2000 MPC. None of you are willing to spend $4000 on an MPC today.

Maybe I am way off base but those are just my thoughts. I actually owned/used all the MPCs I talk about. I don't think the quality of MPCs have gone down. But I do honestly believe that the current design of the MPC has its limitations and they are squeezing in so much that it may burst at the seams. I think the MPC series needs a facelift.

This is what I am referring to.. When you have a car you can go to the dealer, a mechanic or the auto parts store to get either the parts or get your car fixed. I know that time moves on. I know that things chnge and progress. I am also a person who thinks about my personal investment. In any other field or market, if the company releases a product that does not meet all the specifications it promoted the company and or the product is deemed a failure. If it were for not Bruce Forat, VST or MPCstuff. Com a lot of people would be screwed. I know it is my decision to buy or not. I just would like the same loyalty that a company expects from us. I understand corporate culture and how a business legacy preceeds them but where is the customer incentive to move on. I just want a great mchine like the 4000 and all mpc owners to get the support they deserve. I am getting of my soapbox now. Props and respect to all mpc owners. People will always get mistreated until they stand for what is right and what is rightfully do them. I am speaking of respect.

Well, DUH!!!!!!!!

You have several years of advances between the "old" AKAI and the "new" AKAI.

BTW. The MPC2500 was already being developed back in 2003 under the "old" AKAI.

Yup.. I'm glad that there has come more competition to mpc this year .. and hopefully that will bring the prices down.

I understand that you pay for your mpc, because i paid alot for mine at the first time.. 1700 euros or something..

I don't think it was a bad deal, because i needed one.. but when you look at the parts and software, it really shouldn't cost that much.

I know mpcs cost 4000 dollars in 96 but so would my cellphone. I mean the mpcs haven't upgraded that much. But i think it's just because the lack of competition in the market.

i dont care what anybody says. i have been inside of the old and the new mpc's. the new ones are cheap. made with cheap pcb's and mass produced. its no wonder why they can sell them at half the cost of the prior models. cause the parts are worth half the cost at best. i did alot of work on my 1000 and it was the worst pcb i have seen in a very long time. just changing out led's caused me to have to rework trace leads on my board. and im no beginner\novice at this. i have about 15 years micro electronics exp under my belt. the new stuff is garbage. my opinion is get the oldest most feature packed one you can get. **** the 5000

Finally some one says it. The Numark MPC's are made of cheaper quality parts. Not sure about the 5k, but if it's like the 2500
By xibalba1875 Mon Feb 09, 2009 9:11 pm
If you want the MPC 5K i suggest you buy it used. So AKAI gets none of the profits. If i can help it im never buying a new piece of equipment from AKAI. Unfortunatily ive had to buy parts straight from AKAI because noone else carries them and MPCstuff gets all their sh*t from AKAI anyways. So in someways ill still be supporting AKAI but never will i buy a new piece from them.
