midi record question?

ok, when i midi hand shake with my mini korg, I can trigger sounds on my mpc and vise vesrsa the part I enjoy is that I can record parts, that i play on the korg directly in to the mpc, thats awsome, when I hook my midi key board connected to live, via usb, then try and midi hand shake, I get the sounds to play on mpc's pads but can't the sounds to record,I dont get it,
any ideas,again it works fine on the hardware but not the soft ware.
