using a keyboard to type names on the 4000

how do you do it, just plug it in and type? i dont have a keyboard to plug in yet so im not sure. thanks.

Yup.
USB jack right by the headphones. Plug and type.
You save your record/sample/program buttons from an early death.
You can use it for everything, just get the QWERTY layout map from Akai's website:
