OS1 mpc1000: "16 Levels", chords with "NOTE ON" and POLY??

i browsed through the whole forum and found some posts related to this topic, but i thought i'll give it another try, hoping that JJ OS updates might have led to a solution.

here goes...

SAMPLE (let's say a long synth bass) is set on NOTE ON and POLY and i want to play notes at the same time while being in 16 LEVELS.

i know this works if the sample is "NOTE OFF", but i would like to play e.g. chords, once short and then the next chord a bit longer, variation.

using decay in the NOTE OFF mode helps but then the lenght is pretty much the same with every chord.

and i know about the JJ "Auto Chromatic Assign" function, that does the trick but i would like to be able to swith 16 levels on any random sample and playing multiple pads at the same time, without having to create an extra "chromatic" programm. seems like to much hassle, just to try a sound out and see if the chords good...

hope you guys can help me out, in case there is no other solution to "auto chromatic assign" i guess i'll just have to stick to that.

I'm using JJOS 3.08 on a MPC-1000BK. Experiencing the same problems. Polyphony goes out the window when you have a pad setup for NOTE ON and want to use it in 16 Levels -> TUNE mode. Mono only and more annoyingly one pad's note off info will stop any other pad currently pressed.

this is because it's all the same pad being pressed.

16 levels is only playing 1 pad at a time - even if it's playing that same pad 3 times polyphonically.

so, when you turn on 16 levels and hit 3 different tunings of the original pad, the NOTE OFF of the first released tuning is going to NOTE OFF all the others, too - because it's the same pad.

this is yet another reason why 16 levels - tune is an archaic, overhyped, and often overused mpc function - like NOTE REPEAT.

create an INST pgm or CHROMATIC DRUM pgm.

or just trigger the other level (second iteration of same pad) a tick after the first. Really, one tick is not going to f up your groove--it may add something unexpected. I remember doing this with my 2Kxl years ago. Another option is to just load up the exact same sound on another pad after changing its name. Even though it's the same sample, if it's on different pads you can trigger them simultaneously (w or w/o 16 LEVELS), no problem.

Work within the confines = find something new. Sorry Nym, I know you've directly attacked this sentiment before, but it is valid for many people, myself included.
