Hi.PleASE HELP ME AS i DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. wHEN i CHOP A SAMPLE INTO 16 IT DOESN'T WORK WELL. I CAN HEAR THAT THE SAMPLE IS NOT PLAYED FLUENTLY (YOU KNOW, YOU CAN HEAR THAT IT'S CHOPPED INTO 16 , IT'S VERY ANNOYING)i DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO CAUSE I KNOW THE RULE- I START ALL MY CHOPS FROM THE BEGININGS OF THE WAVES I EVEN TRIED TO CHOP THE SAMPLE INTO 8 AND THEN DIVIDE EACH REGION INTO 2 WHICH SEEMED LOGIC TO ME BUT STILL IT DOEsN'T WORK. I'M VERY CONFUSED CAUSE THIS CHOPPING RULE WORKS WITH SOME SAMPLES BUT STILL I HAVE ALOT OF SAMPLES WHICH I CAN'T CHOP WELL. I TRIED CHANGING THE TEMPO BUT IT DOESN'T WORK. DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ME ? CAUSE I'M SO MAD ( I 'VE JUST SPENT MY HOLIDAY WEEK MESSING WITH THE SAMPLES )I FEEL LIKE THROWING MY MPC OUT OF THE WINDOW OR JUMPING OUT OF IT MYSELF...HELP ME IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER MPC-DUMBHEAD COMMITTING A SUICIDE:) Peace.

I'm just wondering why this rule works for some samples and for some not....maybe in fact im a chopping dumb...

Haveing it loop proper may be the number 1 rule , But allmost just as important, and even more so in some cases, is make sue your choppin where your suposed to........You can't rely on the Mpc to make perfect chops...........You gottta zoom in alot ,blow up even more..........If theres drums ,Cut at the Kick ,hat and the snare . If theres no drums Cut at notes.......
Some times I turn that program to mono so samples don't step on each other....

have a chill, smoke some purps and TAKE CAPS OFF my man.

as already stated, chop points are key here. you gotta cut them before the transient peaks on a zero crossing to get them not to click. then you must remember that you can only speed the tempo up because if you slow it down you will introduce gaps between slices which will sound like you describe... if you must slow the tempo you will need to lower the pitch of your slices so the gap wont appear.

If your loop's off, it won't sound right spread across the pads

yes u are !, only kidding.

basically - if ur going to chop stuff up, u will need to know (quite precisely) the tempo, and the groove of the piece u are taking, because in this life, pretty much nothing is equal. ie: all the snips u have there (16) will not be totally straight.

so if u want to play it back to sound real again*, u would need to get the timing just right. BUT if u want to rearrange the bits, it should be easier, as long as u have prepared for the little gaps in between the chops, like by adding a slight loop to create a tail end for each snip to 'smooth' into the next.

now one other thing. are u actually using the auto chop? or the nondestructive chop? or the straight up slice?

* i often use patched phrases to re-run a break with the groove intact, because it can run at almost any tempo, and can be re-pitched and still run at various tempo's and retain the breaks 'feel' - thats because the PP is given the tempo (by u) and it retains the groove from the original timing, eg: so the snare will be ON the snare, even if its a bit of a swingy break.

YEAH I KNOW ALL THAT. I CUT AT THE KICKS ALWAYS CAUSE THEY'RE VISIBLE VERY EASY . SO THE SNARRES ARE. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WHEN I SEE THE WAVES. I ZOOM A LOT AND START MY CUTS AT THE BEGININGS. I ALWAYS TURN THE SAMPLES INTO MONO AND MUTE THEM AS A GROUP. SO WHEN I HAVE A SAMPLE THAT I WANT TO CHOP INTO 16 BASICALLY I HAVE NO PROBLEMS IN FINDING THE SNARES AND KICKS SO I SUPPOSE I HAVE 8 OF MY CHOPS CHOPPED PROPERLY. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE REST. I'VE TRIED TO CHOP A SAMPLE INTO 8 WHEN I CAN SEE CLEARLY THE WAVES AND THEN DIVIDING EACH REGION INTO 2 SO I CAN HAVE 16 CHOPS (IT SEEMED LOGICAL TO ME)BUT STILL IT DOESN'T WORK WITH EVERY SAMPLE. I GUESS I JUST HAVE TO SPEND WEEKS ON CHOPPING SAMPLES AND PRACTICE...PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT AS THEY SAY...I ONLY HOPE I WON'T GO NUTS BECAUSE OF THAT:) YOU KNOW IT'S VERY ANNOYING WHEN YOU DO SOME THING A LOT AND SEE NO RESULTS AND PROGRESS...ANYWAY THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES PEACE!!!!!!!(IF YOU HVE SOME MORE ADVICE PLEASE POST IT HERE I'LL TRY ANYTHING, I'M DESPERATE)

Yo, dont cut everything down to 16.

what works for me sometimes is counting. Count the measures in the samples (while playing the loop/sample) and slice the whole sample accordingly namean!! Sometimes you find out that a specific sample should be cut in 12 steps to keep the integrity of the music.
