emu sp1200 & emu emax similarities...

The OS on the Emax-1 will only recognize 20mb, so your basically wasting Compact flash's and Zip disks if you install one. Remember, the Emax came out in 1985, 100megs for storage would have been very expensive, and 1gb or more was never even thought of.

You could use 16mb flash , Solid state storage is so much more fast and reliable.

but what about the Emax, how do you chop on that shyt????

and can Emax copy a sound multiple time and then you work with it or is it like the SP where your limited to a few secs on each pad??

I find working with a fader is such a great feeling. I dont have a SP12 or 1200 but my FZ1 have a data fader and I can use it for any data (include chopping). I can imagine how much fun i would have withe 8 faders of the SP.

On the Emax you can use the data fader too but its just for coarse values. You need "inc" and "dec" buttons to set finer values.
The samplelenght can be as long as the available RAM (if a samplerate of 28kHz is choosen the max samplingtime is 18.8 sec) I didnt find anything about copying a sample in the manual but you can do a search of your own

Could you imagine that such a machine gives you much more than sound? Some people have much fun to push buttons on a machine like this and I would never call this a waste of time (fun should be included in the process of music making). Sure you are not as fast as recycle or all the other software stuff but you loose all the needless stuff and just take what you really need and focus on important things(just an example).

I found chopping on the EMAX a hassle. Its doable but longwinded. I prefer to take multiple shorter samples and just trim the start/end points as opposed to taking a longer sample and chopping it into pieces.

cant really give any comparisons since i just got the Emax and never touched, heard, or seen an SP w/ my own two eyes and ears in person to say how it sounds except in pics and in songs that producers used the SP in.

That's how I feel! We got MPC's with Compact flash, and internal Hard-drives that can hold the samples.

Will SP1200 floppy disks work in the Emax?

I have a emax and i just use it to run a sample and when needed filter it and chop in mr asr.

^^thats effd up son. I understand it if you want to make a little loot and people who cant or dont want to mod their stuff will use your service. But what about those of us who like to mod and solder?? I wouldn't pay someone like you. If there is a way to get new floppydrives work I will find it out sooner or later (got a s900 drive already working. I think SP is not such a big problem too). And guess what. I would (and will) provide that knowledge.
You should learn a lesson from that dude from SCSI4Sampler. He provide his knowledge although he also sell the stuff.
