I love my MPC but damn...

CRACKLE NOISE! WHAT GIVES?

Load screen shows how much WAV memory have have left to sample. It starts out with around 118MB, I have the AKAI 128MB ram installed.

I have been keeping a close eye on the WAV memory left and when it hits 100MB left everything I sample or load into memory will have an anoyying crackle sound in the sample, like dirt from a record. I then will sample or load more stuff in the memory and when it says I have someting like less than 90MB left, sampling and loading is flawless again.

So it's almost as if anything loaded in memory from the 100MB - 90MB markers has this god awful crackle noise in the samples. This is very annoying when it is a warm clean pad-like sound.. because it becomes tainted with this unwanted noise.

This took me awhile to figure out, but its nice to know I can work around it by loading a large bull **** sample to fill the 100MB - 90MB range.

I am thinking, ok, its gotta be the RAM.

Any thoughts?

Just because it's the Akai ram doesn't make it immune to ESD or from being faulty from the factory.
You are describing bad ram. possibly not seated correctly but more than likely bad.

Grab some new ram, the price on the Akai ram has come down but still no real reason to choose it over some Kingston or PNY.

mine, only 13,14,15, and 16 and still very good.

pad 3 is already RIP. and i had replaced pad 2 like a year ago and its already about to die again!!

ugh..

i need the pad upgrade!!
