MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

hi guys,

I've just finished loading my sample library (40 Gb) to my mpc5000... so... if my macbook is usb2 and the mpc is usb2, how is possible that it took about 10 hours to transfer 40 Gb?

I'm very worried since it would be important for me to make a backup of the mpc HD from time to time... but I can't wait 10 hours for a backup!

is this an issue of MY mpc or you are having the same issue?

According to user reports, the 5000 has very slow saving and loading. It probably won't utilize all the speed of USB 2.0 because the 5k save load speed is a bottleneck. Transfer speeds seem to be about the same as the old MPC 4000.

How long should it have taken to move 40 Gig of files from one machine to another using USB 2.0?

When you connect an external HD to a modern Mac or PC via USB2, transferring 40GB of data should take about 20-30 minutes. The maximum transfer rate of USB2 is theoretically 480 MegaBit per second, that's about 60MByte of data per second (1byte=8bits)...

confirmed. hey, akai, why should you tell that usb 2.0 has been implemented if the transfer rate is actually ten time slower than the full-speed usb 2.0?

mhhhh... this is my first mpc... I have it from less than a couple of weeks and already love it... and I already hate akai for their numerous mistakes... :(

The latest hardware samplers don't take full advantage of USB 2.0. Even still, the 10 hours IS ridiculous. 2-4 hours should be the max when compared to current hardware samplers. MPC 5k is really slow for a newer sampler.
