JJ OS 2 Copy and Paste in Grid - What am I doing wrong?

I've been trying to copy a pattern from one pad/sound to another using copy and paste in grid edit mode in JJ OS 2. I select the range to copy, hit F2 then go to the pad/sound I want to paste that pattern to. When I hit F3 (paste), it just pastes the pattern on the first/copied sound, doubling it up. What am I doing wrong?

Great point. I'm pretty sure that Drum Grid can only copy and paste from the same pad, to the same pad (currently).

I have no idea why. Calling all Grid Masters...

makes perfect sense to me. any other way would be irritating - what if you're copying more than 1 pad? you'd have to make your selection (all pads) and then move back up to the beginning pad before pasting, otherwise your recorded note data would all end up in pads A16-B15's rows.

you can't copy a recorded sound from 1 pad to another pad's row.

it's like me copying this:

ttttttt

and pasting it somewhere else and expecting it to be

rrrrrrr

you're copying what's recorded and it'll paste what's recorded - what you CAN do however is go into SEQ edit and transpose the data to move the notes to the pad you're wanting to play

edit: in many cases, this is one of those times when a rerecord/physical pushing of the correct pad is gonna be quicker. granted, if you've already got a highly edited, difficult to reproduce, lightning fast pad performance that you want to put in a diffferent place, it'd be faster to just transpose in seq edit

Ok that helps. I usually have a good performance from one pad but want to layer it up on another track and/or pad. I'll try the transpose function in Seq/Edit. Thanks.

shouldn't you just use SIMULT PAD or sample layers for that?

True... it would work well for him with good Old Fashioned Simult Pad.

But should we even be recommending that? He shouldn't get too familiar with that method, since it won't work if he switches to 2XL.
