I read in a review that the 5000 can export 24 bit audio files. Does this mean it can record at 24 bits? (I didn't think it could.)

And if it can only export at 24 bits but not record, what is the advantage here?

An easy question? It is not in the manual. And when you record hard disk tracks in a song and you save the song, these tracks are in format that is unreadable outside of the 5K as far as I can tell.

Oh, that's too bad it doesn't save direct to WAV. I love how all the new MPC's save regular samples to WAV as default.

I don't have a 5000 yet, BTW. Just being a gear-nerd.

The question is whether it records to hard disk in 24 bit not whether it samples in 24 bit. Whether the tracks were recorded at 16 bit versus 24 bit doesn't matter to me because I love the way MPC 5K sounds.

That's a good point.
Normally the difference would come in from you processing it or using the effects since it would allow for better processing.
However one thing you notice on the 5k is that the effects sound better and the DSP seems pretty good.
It may be that with the changes they made in the sampling engine the difference between the new engine at 16 and the old engine at 24 became less of a factor.

i agree. It's very clean and bright like 24bit.

do you think the comercial songs on radio stations were recorded with 16bit?
every professional producer/musician records on 24 (or 32) bit and after processing mixes down to 16bit cd format.

it has to do with headroom, more detailed sample calculating etc....

sorry to say this but some guys in the 5k forum looking through pink eyeglasses

in year 09 24bit recording should be not that hard
