1. Its a Tascam M-1516. I borrowed it for an indefinite time from my landlord. I saw it unused in his cellar and asked him. He and his wife played in a band back in the late 70s. I also got a record from his band. Now thats rare stuff ;)

2. I dont use XLR cause most of my near every part of my equipment has asymetic ins and outs. I use 1/4 just as you.

peace

Looks like a comfy and cozy setup.

For your monitors: you should find the spot that you end up spending the most time at, then just try to place them there, spread out a bit wider than your ears (since you are so close to them) and try to get them up about eye/ear height. No bigger than those monitors are, I would mount them to the wall in your setup - will gain you a bit of desk space back too.

Also, don't store your records laying on their side like that. I know it doesn't seem like it, but they WILL warp when left laying like that for a period of time. Sure, it's fine while you are shuffling through them shopping for samples, but find somewhere/someway to get them standing upright once your session is over.

Update:

As mentioned in another thread, I am in the process of building a collection of equipment I have no idea how to use.....

I went from this Desk setup

To this Desk setup

I got a good deal on the desk setup... Now I am awaiting the arrival of my Motif XS Rack, Numark tt500, and a Korg Kontrol 49.... Hopefully I can figure those things out... I got a deal on a Korg K61P but I cannot get GarageBand nor ProTools to recognize it...

Well I ordered a Yamaha KX49 and some Alesis M1AKMKII.... I think I am done for at least year on gear. This is all I can afford right now..... Hopefully it gets the job done.

^^^^ I think having a gaming system in ya studio help to get ya mind loose and then you could reattack the beat you working on.... Like I use it when Im creatively stuck and play like 2 games of online COD:WAW and come back and something usually comes to mind. But everyone has a different work ethic. might work for me but might not for others.

I've been having a blast seeing all the nice setups here. Very entertaining. Great gear porn

Anyways I figured I'd show my little workspace. These pics aint super recent, so there's some gear that's gone, and there's other new stuff. Overall though, it hasn't changed a whole lot.

First, the main hub:

Then, right behind the chair, accessible via a 180 degree turn:

AND to the far right of the main hub... hit the lights!:

I'm selling this DJ setup (CDJ's + DJM + Coffin) though . Need the cash, so I'm getting rid of the nonessentials.

wassup everybody, man I love coming to this page and checking out the setups that everyone has it never gets old. I hope everyone here who spend all their hard earned money to buy all their equipment are people who just love to make music and just love music. Surprisingly, I haven't seen an MPC 5000 in this thread but on the 5000 thread.
