never had one but Bout to get an Mpc to use with cubase.....

Hello. I'm obviosuly new to this board and about to be new with an mpc. I have currently been using fruity loops. I can never get the drums to groove to my liking no matter how much i quanitize or use the swing. This is what i want the mpc for. I figure it will make my drums sound much better. I really need that mpc timing. I use cubase to record and mix. I've played with mpcs here and there in the past but never owned one or knew how to do much of anything other than create a quick loop. I'm going to be hooking it up to cubase. Im just not sure how i want to do it. I really dont know much about midi. Ive heard of people using an mpc with battery and cubase. I guess battery to sample and the mpc to sequence and pad? does this sound right? how do you guys set up your mpcs to daws? I want to intergate the software and hadware to utilize the best of both worlds. Sorry if these questions sound stupid or if you dont understand what im getting at. thanks. Oh, and i was thinking of getting the mpc1k.

First off The best way to get the best swing is to not qantize. Turn it off and u will get a natural feel to your playing.

If u want to record to a DAW you need a decent mixer and a soundcard.

Ok this is what i do:

I record midi in to the MPC with My Motif XS rack and sometimes Reason.
Then i Track out each track through my Mackie Onyx 1220 and Soundcard M-audio Delta 1010 to Acid Pro.
Then i work my stuff from there.

Well, Peter, this is exactly the setup that I use ( SX3 and MPC ). I can tell you that it all syncs and works like a dream, truly !

I made the mistake about 6 months ago of buying Akai's MPD32 controller ( a peice of utter unsuable shish, really !! ). I soon sold it and bought myself a real MPC, the 1000. The unit runs into my soundcard by both midi and audio cables. When using the MPC sounds, I simply open an auido track in Cubase, arm it, set the tempos for both the same and hit record. they both automtically start after the 4 beat count-in - voila !! Simplicity itself.

Or, if I want to use the MPC as a drum controller, I simply switch the MPC ober to Midi in the window and use to trigger my Battery, Session Drummer, SampleTank, Sonic, ( the list goes on, actually ). Tha great thing about the MPC is that all it's note repeat functions work flawlessly with the software you are using too - a real bonus.
