Record while already playing

Hey guys, just watched this video (sample kings?), where the guy pushes the record button while already playing the sequence. I know that you can set the pre rec sound (metronome) for 1 bar 2 bars etc. But I have never found out that it is possible to push record while already playing a sequence. I always stopped the sequence to start it over again.. Thank you very much!

and thank you for the answer. Right now I am at work, and have no possibility to check it, but I am 99% certain that this is not working, as I have tried it many times. But in the video it clearly looks like he is pushing the record button while the sequence is playing, and he just records. or maybe it is because of the pre rec is turned of, and he stops it fast and records immeditaly. I just cant believe i have not seen this, because I have been using this machine for 8 years or more, and many a times I have been irritated that I play something and need to stop the seq before starting recording.

well i just tried it,
rec+play works
overdub+play works

rec/overdub + play start does not...
