connecting and transfering is not a problem, only transferspeed.
at least on my powerbook with tiger (latest).
do you have full usb2 speed?

transfering about 4gb takes about 20min with usb2 and about 4-5 hours with usb1 (not tested the whole process)

thats odd.. maybe check the usb website for answers. I think it is something like usb.com

they used to have a FAQ, a troubleshooting area, and I believe they even had a knowledge base which would definately help...

yeah, full speed on pc notebook.
transfered about 10gb the last hour.
weird. i thought i readed it somewhere on the forum that the mac usb2 speed dont works with the 5k (but cant remember where...)

you know, it could have something to do with the cable, it also could have to do with the port. I somehow doubt it is the case, but sometimes they install a usb 1 hub inside the machine. Try different cables and ports.

I am not sure how it is set up inside your computer... try other devices known to work properly on the same port etc.. maybe narrowing it down could help find out where the problem is.

will try this out this evening.
if PC works and not mac, there must be an usb-communication-setup problem between 5k and mac.
to be continued...

i am curious...

btw: same cables, tried diff. ports also...

tried out an usb2-port on my pc this evening, same problem persists as with mac:

PC to 5K transfer:

transferring 300MB=5minutes
thus 3GB=50minutes
thus 30GB=500minutes=8.5Hours

PC to external maxtor drive (via usb2):

transferring 300MB=35 seconds
thus 3GB=350s=6min
thus 30GB=60min=1Hr

so the 5K is about 8.5 slower in data transfer then an external USB2 harddrive...

The 5K USB-programmer did a lousy programming job on this one...
Moreover, the fact that the 5K is not operational in USB-mode, he should have done a better job...

I've transferred 40 gb from my macbook pro to my mpc5000 in less than 10 hours.... it seems that the mpc5000 usb2 is not full speed... and that the transfer rate is the same both with PC and MAC

@lord
you are right, but my pb is one of the latest series with usb2 ports.

yesterday i transfered an imovie from my pb to an external usb2 hd.
it takes about 10min for nearly 4gb. so it must be usb2.

the time difference compared to the sample transfer should be the fact that samples are way more files than only a few videofiles.

as i said: the transfer with my pc notebook (even an outdated model) tooks about 20min, the same samples with pb would take about 4-5h.

i think the best way is to put out the internal hd and connect it to an usb/ide converter or usb2 hd case. normaly i transfer these big files this way (at least on my 4k  )

problem is that you lost your warranty, i guess.

hopefully you don't mean this sincerely???

AKAI should check the USB-programming routines of the 5K in order to get it going full-speed :!:
