It´s not that big, the free OS basically has the same features (see the comparison chart) so you should def. read it to understand the machine. Don´t use the forum as your manual or you´ll get flamed worse than in this thread.

Hey wat, like rinseout said, the Free JJOS isn't that different. Really, most of the changes are in the interface to save/load, the interface to TRIM, and the additions of GRID and GLOBAL PROGRAM.

For the rest (including how to sample) the free JJOS works just like the Akai OS.

Your Mem question pertains to the size of the sample you are using. I forget how big a sample can be without the memory expansion, but when I first started the onboard mem was enough if I chopped the sample a bit b4 I loaded it. And having Samples in MONO saves space as well. Read the Sticky in this section about what memory works, because expansion memory is fairy inexpensive these days.. I know a year ago I paid $17 for mine.

I see no matter how much they tell you, you will still find another question to ask instead of reading......



Alot of people on here do not get mad about the simplistic questions being asked. It is more about the lack of effort used when searching for insight to a problem. Telling someone to read the manual is the best advice anyone iun here can give you. Reading the naual in SOME cases will explain the "why", or help you understand the "why" better. And it is a better reference than any board member can be.

Put in the time and effort, because that is really evident in peoples music.

OP you are asking questions about stuff that is clearly in the Manual. If that fails to explain it, then ask here or hit up Youtube.... There are quite a few Tutorials on the MPC1000 on how to do things. A combo of these three things can prob get you through most stuff.

Either that, or you've got to get more selective with your sampling methods (mono instead of stereo, short bits instead of long ones).

But like SHWELL said, memory is cheap. I cop'd mine on Newegg.com for around $20 bucks or so, and all my "insufficient memory" problems went away.

The MPC is basically a computer, and just like any computer you buy, you almost always need more memory then they come with stock.

iv been making beats on my mpc 1000 with out a ram expansion for atleast a year and half now, thats kus i sample the drums AND the sample in mono, usualy i choose which side of the sample sounds apealing..

before you get your ram exapansion you can do this to make beats, and it will save you alot more sample space.

and remember that you have to delete all the stock sounds that load up in your trim menu if you havent turned of the autoload
