Uploaded a video of the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlpmKG-gQRQ

I'm having a huge problem with something that should be so simple. I'm just trying to sync my Pro Tools and MPC together so that Pro Tools is the master and the MPC is the slave. I have followed the directions posted on this site and the Digidesign site.

I've gone into Setup > MIDI Beat Clock > Checked Enable MIDI Beat Clock and the corresponding MIDI output port. I've gone into my MPC's Sync setting and set my IN.

My MIDI cables are hooked up appropriately.

But when I hit play in Pro Tools, my MPC doesn't budge. I have been searching this forum and others and still no luck.

I'm running an MPC 1000, JJ OS 3.08, Pro Tools 7.0, Mbox 2, Windows XP

I know this question has been asked a million times, but I'm honestly following the directions I've come across exactly and still no luck. I've hooked up MIDI in so many other different scenarios and have never run into a problem like this.

on the mp make sure you set the correct port that will be recieving the midi signal. also make sure you are coming out from pt to the in on the mp.

I've done that. I have my MIDI cable from my Pro Tools Out going to my MPC "1" In. I've gone into Mode > MIDI/SYNC > Sync and set my Sync In as "1" on my MPC

Still nothing when I hit play in Pro Tools. Is there something in Pro Tools that I'm missing? These are the directions I have followed so far ...

** In the MPC1000:
2) Go to the "MIDI/Sync" menu.
3) Set "Sync In" to the corresponding MIDI input port on the MPC.

In Pro Tools:
4) Set your tempo in Pro Tools. (See instructions at the bottom of this page.)
5) Go to the Setup menu and choose MIDI Beat Clock. Check the boxes for "Enable MIDI Beat Clock" and the corresponding MIDI output port.
6) Press play. The MPC should now be playing along with Pro Tools.
NOTE: (Make sure that the value for bars, in the MPC, is NOT set to zero. If it is set to zero, it will not be triggered.) **

But like I said, my MPC still won't start with Pro Tools. This is so frustrating.

Hmmmmm.......well something I noticed is that when you hit play in pro tools you thought the mpc was suppose to play, try hitting record then hit play in pro tools and see what happens. If that doesnt work maybe you need another cable and you could try doing a midi handshake with the mbox and mpc.

Are you hitting play on the MPC b4 you hit play in PT?

I may be wrong, but it looks like a step is missing in your MPC setup. I will check...

In the MIDI sync page are you setting the MPC to:

Sync IN:1 (Slave)
Mode: MIDI Clock

Receive MMC: Off

When I used to play with SYncing in PRoTools, this is what I did not know when I first started, and I thought I was doing it wrong based on the steps I read on Digi's site... It just seems that this step is ignored in the explanation.

Yeah, I tried hitting play on the MPC before PT. Nothing syncs though. The MPC just starts playing on its own, as does PT.

As far as your directions above, I only have Sync In and Out options in my Sync menu on my MPC. No MIDI Clock or Receive MMC options.

Another odd thing is, I tried syncing Pro Tools and my Motif via MTC and Beat Clock as well, but still no sync. I'm starting to think there's a deeper problem now. I just don't know.
