LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM...NEWBIE

I recently purchased an MPC 2000. I powered it on and after about 5 seconds the words "insert MPC 2000 disk!" appeared on the screen. I put the operating system disk in the zip drive and nothing happens.

Is there something else that I should do or is there a problem with the zip drive?

I called the AKAI tech support line and they referred me to V.S.T....they haven't called back yet.

Please be gentle in your response because I have never worked with an MPC 2000 before.

never used the 2k but i would assume that once u insert the zip disk u have to load the os onto the mpc. did u load the data from the zip disk>

It will not load...I realize now that it is not even accessing the drive. I am sending it in for repair at VST.

what about the floppy drive, does it recognize the floppy drive? If it does, try downloading the 1.72 OS on to a floppy then try to load the OS from the floppy. Could be the the zip drive is no good.

btw...as long as the MPC can read the drive, it will automatically take the OS file and load it without having to do it manually.

hey guys. i already have a 2000 and a 1000 but today im about to pick up another 2000 cuz dude is selling it for $275. he said the floppy drive is broke. if i put the OS .sys file onto a zip disk will the MPC boot from my scsi zip drive automatically or will it try to read off the floppy drive? thanks .

yes it will, at least mine does even though some people on these boards told me it won`t
