I think my MPC 1000 is possessed...

Hello! I'm a new MPC user. I got my MPC 1000 practically brand new (I suspect a demo model at a user store) from eBay. Anyway, I sat down with it tonight for a long session to really get to understand the work flow. Anyway, the thing started freaking out at me! The preloaded demo samples kept playing over top of each other (sounded very demonic...horror!) without my touching a pad. After a few factory resets the problem just got worse. All of a sudden, I just got an error screen every time I powered it down and back on again.

Is there a well-known bug problem with the MPC 1000? Any known fixes? I haven't yet bought a flash card, but I'm hoping that I can load the newest OS on there (I don't know which OS I'm using, but I don't think it's JJ) and that may take care of some issues.

I'd really appreciate the help if you can offer it.

Hey man, just a stab in the dark here, but I'd check to see if the RAM/Memory module (if it has one) is seated properly in the memory slot and I'd also ensure that it is the correct type of memory too. I had something similar when I installed a faulty RAM chip...

I'm not sure it has one. One startup it just tells me that it has the standard 16MB of memory. Is it worth checking anyway? Also, how would I go about doing what you suggest?

Yeah they all come with the stocko 16MB. If your gunna check the RAM make sure you watch a video or find out how to properly remove and check your RAM. I dont think it sounds like a RAM problem though. Might be the Akai OS?
Remember dude just take it slow and dont get frustrated. Also did the Samples that came with it come pre-loaded into the internal memory?
When I got mine all the samples came loaded on a Flash card.

Unfortunately, mine didn't come with a Flash card. The samples were on the hard drive. Also, the samples on mine are different from those on Akai's website (http://www.akaipro.com/company/media2.p ... ZVU4B2I%3D)...so I'm thinking I don't have the newest OS?

Tomorrow I'll pick up a Flash card and load the newest OS onto it. Hopefully that'll fix it.

Also, to do a factory reset, I simply power it on while pressing "Erase" and then release "Erase" when I see the text "MPC1000 16MB"? That's what the users manual told me to do. Is there any way of telling whether the reset worked?

Ide say dont even bother loading Akai's latest OS, I suggest you go here http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/ and download JJ OS for free. It includes more options for functionality and has a way better workflow(although not much is different as far as layout is concerned)

G'luck w/ everything and you might wanna upgrade your ram to the 128mb.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, if my MPC has a terrible bug, and I ultimately have to take it in for servicing, wouldn't it harm my leverage of the warranty to have the JJ OS installed?

Well does it still have a warranty? Second, it doesnt sound like a hardware error to me... I could be wrong.

You did try replacing the OS w/ the most recent from Akai's website right? Still the same goofyness?

I dont think they have any way of knowing if you've installed JJOS :-\, if it doesnt work just load up the Akai os... shouldnt be to hard...

I installed the new OS and am experiencing the same problems. Does the MPC ship with a warranty card? I am unable to find mine. I just have the two manuals and a blue sheet of paper which discussed the best way to use the the Compact Flash cards.

I have also emailed MPC technical support to figure out how to fix my machine.
