Differences btwn various MPC 2000xl s?

I'm new here and want to know before I go out and purchase a used MPC-2000xl, what are the differences between different ones? I see them blue, and white. Is there a difference in operating systems? Do both types work the same? What about memory? Do both have the same amount of memory? Also, what about build quality? Are they the same? Do the reissues have the same build quality and are the the same functionally or did they add some bonus features to it? What about value? Are the newer ones worth any more or less than the old ones and why?

I know, lots of questions. I know very little about these units but I'm thinking I need to get one, to bring me slightly closer to today technology-wise (I play drums and old analog synths and Rhodes)

hey, most of what you see when you're looking at a red vs a blue MPC or a black one for that matter is that a user has customized it... the same for the other MPCs... it's like a body kit for a car almost. there are (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong) different specs as far as having the EXM card installed vs not having it installed... allows you to carry more information on the internal memory of the machine (at least that's the case for the 1000a and the 2500s) and then there are people who have tweaked the machine to their liking internally... but most of the time you're just seeing a faceplate and some custom knobs etc.

As far as buying new or used... I always go new... break in the machine and if you're going to inherit problems... let it be ones you can send back to the manufacturer, lol. So I buy new for the most part... it's an investment and that's how you should look at it.

and if you play instruments, keys, etc, I would think the ideal (budget-wise) set-up would be a 1000, usb/midi controller and maybe Reason 4.0 as a sound module... that would require you to get an audio interface... but start small and build it to where you're comfortable making the music the way you desire...

It does not include the new blue model which is the same thing as the beige.. Some newer Blue models came with flash card readers...

I think the only difference between the two is that the blue one comes with MCD and is fully loaded (i.e. 16MB of RAM vs. the [I think] 2MB that came standard with the original, EB16 Effects Board, and the 8 Output Board). Maybe more, I'm not 100% positive though.

Color is not indicitive of the options installed.. The silver sticker on the Studio Models tell you the options installed. If there is no sticker and someone did it themselved you have to look at the back for the 8 outs , on the mixer screen for the eb16 and on the load screen for the amount of ram added. Max is 32mb but it comes stock with 2mb... There are no red MPC's from the factory..


They came in Beige, Blue , and the LE editions were Orange, Black w Silver, and Charcoal with red and yellow graffiti...
