in between an mpc and computer

what if anything do you send your samples through before sending your tracks to your soundcard/DAW? My tracks are sounding pretty good, but they dont seem to be as rich, warm, beefy, etc. as I'd like them to be. Im working with sonar producer so I can adjust eq and effects real time, but still i feel like im lacking a certain feeling. Is there anything that you all always send samples through to prep them for recording?? I was thinking of picking up a basic 4 channel mixer, but after thinking about it, whats the difference between that and my digital sonar mixer?? Any thoughts?

I use the Aphex 204. It's like magic. I know someone who uses the BBE aural exciter which is similar and it works well too.

If you can find a TL-Audio FAT-1 tube compressor, that's worth a look. V. easy to use, do subtle warming, or get crunchy with it.

What are you working with? Loops, single hit drum sounds? What kind of sound card do you have?

i have a delta 66, Im only recording one track at a time though....all kicks seperatley, all snares seperatley, pretty much each individual track seperatley.

you may find you get a richer sound from using an analogue desk over a digital one..greg
